Moonlight Stage Productions' 2016 Schedule to Include SISTER ACT, PETER PAN & More

Moonlight Stage Productions presents beloved productions for the company's 2016 36th season. The lineup features award-winning productions and two San Diego Regional Premieres, filled with gospel soul, high-flying entertainment, and ghoulish family fun.

"Our 36th season will continue to build upon our recent success of increased audience attendance and our movement to bringing newer musicals to the Moonlight stage," says Steven Glaudini, producing artistic director, Moonlight Stage Productions. "Next summer, we are presenting two San Diego Regional Premieres, 'Sister Act' and 'The Addams Family.' In keeping with our plan to present one family-friendly musical each season, we will present the high-flying spectacle 'Peter Pan.'"

"The generosity of sponsors and individual supporters is what allows us to continue to cultivate the arts in our region, specifically through the high-caliber musical productions generations of San Diego County residents have grown to love," says Toria Watson, executive director, Moonlight Cultural Foundation. "I can't think of a better way to spend a summer night, under the stars with family and friends, enjoying a full evening of dance, song and classic characters."

A woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own.

"Sister Act" is the feel-amazing musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that has audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken ("Newsies," "Beauty And The Beast," "Little Shop Of Horrors"), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical.

When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, "Sister Act" will leave audiences breathless. The cast is chock full of amazing roles for women of all ages making this a perfect choice for high schools and community theatres. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, "Sister Act" is reason to rejoice! This will be the San Diego Regional Premiere.

Based on J.M. Barrie's classic tale and featuring an unforgettable score by Morris "Moose" Charlap and Jule Styne with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh and Betty Comden and Adolph Green, "Peter Pan" is one of the most beloved and frequently performed family favorites of all time. This high-flying Tony award-winning musical has been performed around the world and delighted audiences for 60 years.

Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick Tinkerbell visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and with a sprinkle of pixie dust begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime the travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce Indian tribe, a band of bungling pirates, and of course the villainous Captain Hook.

Featuring the iconic songs "I'm Flying," "I've Gotta Crow," "I Won't Grow Up," and "Never Never Land," and a rousing book full of magic, warmth, and adventure, "Peter Pan" is the perfect show for the child in all of us who dreamed of soaring high and never growing up. "The Addams Family - A New Musical Comedy" features an original story, and it's every father's nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met. And if that weren't upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he's never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday's 'normal' boyfriend and his parents.

A fourth production will be added to the lineup, however the title is yet to be determined. Dates for this production are August 17 through Sept. 3, 2016.

Subscription and single ticket information will be announced later this year. Subscription and single tickets will go on sale January 2016.

PICNICKING AT THE MOONLIGHT

One of the most unique theatre-going experiences found anywhere is Moonlight's lawn seating, allowing patrons to bring their own picnic suppers into the theatre and picnicking before the show. Lawn ticket holders receive a chair as part of their ticket upon entry to the theatre.

ARTISAN CAFÉ AT THE MOONLIGHT

The Moonlight's restaurant, the Artisan Café, is operated by Chef David Krohn. The Café offers pre-show dining outdoors on the Moonlight Patio where glimpses of the sunset can be seen before patrons take their seats for the show.
