Broadway/San Diego Announces Participating Schools for High School Musical Theatre Awards

Broadway/San Diego just announced the 5th annual Broadway/San Diego High School Musical Theatre Awards, sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union®, taking place on Sunday, May 27, 2018 where twenty nominated Students will compete for two spots on an all-expenses paid trip to The Jimmy Awards (National High School Musical Theatre Awards®) in New York in June.

High school productions are currently being scored in a competitive Tony® Awards style adjudication process, to find the top school musical theater talent in San Diego County. The top two winners for Best Actor and Best Actress will each win $1,000 towards a college scholarship and one school will be chosen for Best Musical Production, also winning $1,000 for their theatre department.

Leading up to the awards, nominees will take part in a week-long intensive consisting of individual coaching sessions singing, movement, acting and special workshops with local theatre practitioners.

The Broadway/San Diego High School Musical Theatre Awards will be held at the Historic Balboa Theatre in Downtown San Diego on Sunday, May 27th. It will include twenty leading Best Actress and Best Actor nominees, along with awarding Best Musical, and Best Drama Teacher.

The winning Best Actor and Best Actress performers will be flown to New York for a week of intensive training before they compete in the national finals, The Jimmy Awards, on a Broadway stage for $10,000 toward a college scholarship on Monday, June 25, 2018.
