101 DALMATIANS The Musical is an experience for the entire family about what it means to be a family, canine and courageous.  More than a simple story about good versus bad, the family bands together to overcome every hurdle and hardship in the most difficult times.  The 101 Dalmatians Musical North American tour kicks off at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis on October 13, 2009.  This Broadway/San Diego - A Nederlander Presentation will leap into your hearts at the San Diego Civic Theatre from June 1 - 6, 2010.

Led by the creative team of Jerry Zaks (La Cage Au Folles, Smokey Joe's Cafe, “Everybody Loves Raymond”), B.T. McNicholl (Spamalot, Billy Elliot, Cabaret) and Dennis DeYoung (founding member of the rock group Styx, The Hunchback of Notre Dame), 101 DALMATIANS The Musical will transport audiences to a slightly topsy-turvy, exciting, and altogether fantastic reality that gives grand license for song, dance and spectacle in a one-of-a-kind show that will leave everyone cheering.  "Theatrical wizardry aside, audiences will want to see 101 DALMATIANS The Musical because it's such a classic tale,"   says Jerry Zaks, Director.

Drama Desk Award Winner Rachel York leads the cast of the highly anticipated national stage production of The 101 Dalmatians Musical, based on the 1956 classic story written by Dodie Smith.  She will star as the sinister Cruella de Vil, notorious for kidnapping Dalmatian puppies for their distinctive spots, in a one-of-a-kind musical adventure for the entire family about what it means to be a family, canine and courageous. Best known for her critically acclaimed Broadway performances in City of Angels, Les Misérables, Victor/Victoria (Drama Desk Award) with Dame Julie Andrews, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sly Fox, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, York also turned heads with her portrayal of Lucille Ball in the CBS movie, Lucy; and co-starred opposite Jeff Daniels in the world premiere of the B’way bound musical Turn of the Century at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago.

The production follows Dalmatians spouses Pongo and Missis Pongo who are living the good life in London with their “pets” Charles and Catherine Dearly. When their 10 puppies are suddenly “dognapped” by the villainous Cruella de Vil, they summon the help of a vast network of dogs and set off to rescue their pups. There’s a happy ending for all with laughter, mayhem and music along the way. The 101 Dalmatians Musical also stars fifteen real Dalmatians, many of which were rescued from animal shelters across the country, in a surprise grand finale that will leave audiences cheering.

Following the Minneapolis performance, the production will travel to major markets and venues across the country including a three-week engagement at Madison Square Garden’s WaMu Theater in New York City on April 6-25, 2010.  As a Broadway/San Diego ~ A Nederlander Presentation, it will play the San Diego Civic Theatre from June 1 - 6, 2010.
