THE PILLOWMAN Comes to Woodlawn's Black Box, Now thru 7/7

By:

The Woodlawn Theatre's new Black Box Theatre is sure to raise more than just a few eyebrows with the premiere of 'The Pillowman', a richly dark comedy about a morbid writer accused of perpetrating the very same murderous acts against children depicted in his stories.

Directed by ATAC Award winner Kevin Murray, 'The Pillowman' is a veritable maelstrom of dizzying heights, starring Michael Burger as Katurian, and featuring Roger Alvarez, Tyler Keyes, and Bryce Jeter as Michal. Set in a totalitarian state, Katurian finds himself being questioned by the good cop/bad cop duo. Confused as to why he's really there, they begin detailing his gruesome stories and how they relate to a string of recent homicides. When the writer's mentally impaired brother, Michal, is also brought in for questioning, the police procedural takes unforeseen twists and turns.

As the garish stories hysterically unfold onstage, the audience can't help but question, "Is it OK to laugh at that?" One particular tale tells the story of The Little Jesus in which a girl, believing herself to be the next incarnation of Jesus Christ, lands herself in a foster home with abusive parents who brutally torture the poor girl in biblical proportions. Unsettling as that may seem, most of the stories unveiled in this show are bound to have the audience laughing and shuddering at the same time.

Opening tonight, June 14th, the show will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights through July 7th. Check out the Woodlawn's website for ticket information. This provocative and creepy play is one you won't want to miss!
