Photo Coverage: PETER AND THE STARCATCHER's Actors and Las Casas Foundation Help Students at Say Si in San Antonio, Texas
Teens got a glimpse into the world of PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, the five-time Tony Award winning musical play written by Tony Award nominee Rick Elice and directed by Tony Award-winner Roger Rees and Tony Award-nominee Alex Timbers, playing the Majestic Theatre for eight performances October 22-27.
"Behind the Scenes" gives students unique experiences and performing arts curriculum, allowing students to participate in educational sessions about theater and attend two shows from the Majestic Theatre's Broadway in San Antonio series, while also enjoying other performances and activities designed to ignite a life-long love of the performing arts.
Actors Jimonn Cole who plays Slank, Carl Howell who plays Prentiss, and Edward Tournier who plays Ted took time to meet with the students and encourage them in their desire to perform. The actors took the students typical warm-up and had them perform a small skit using only certain props and lines. The students' ideas were innovative and unique. It was a rare opportunity for the students and the actors to interact and learn from each other.
Las Casas Foundation is dedicated to the development of the performing arts through education and scholarships and the restoration and preservation of historic theatres. The foundation works to support performing arts in San Antonio through programs such as Behind the Scenes and the Las Casas Performing Arts Scholarship Competition, an annual event for graduating college bound high school seniors to assist them in their future education and produce continuing art lovers, supporters and audience members. Since the program's inception in 2009, $385,000 in scholarship funds have been awarded to competition finalists.
