Monty Python's SPAMALOT Takes to the Woodlawn Stage, Now thru 9/1

By:

A fitting follow up to the silliness that is The Producers, the historic Woodlawn Theatre will stage the silliness that is Monty Python's Spamalot beginning in August on the main stage. Join the Woodlawn as it heads out on a quest (God be praised, we have a quest!) for the Holy Grail. (God, the almighty and all-knowing, has misplaced a cup?)

The telling of the legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table featuring a bevy of beautiful showgirls, a few cows, killer rabbits and French people, will take place Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. today, August 2 through September 1. Tickets will be available starting July 2 online at www.woodlawntheatre.com, or by phone at 210- 267- 8388. Prices are $15 for students and children, $20 for seniors and military, and $23 for adults.

Adapted by Eric Idle and John Du Prez from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot was the recipient of the Tony Award for Best Musical of 2005.

"It's a wonderful night, and I fart in the general direction of anyone who says otherwise," says the Daily Telegraph about the musical, which stays fairly true to the artful tackiness and fatuous frivolity of its original movie inspiration. You don't, however, have to be a cult follower to enjoy the show.

The Woodlawn Theatre is San Antonio's historic community theatre, located in the heart of the Deco District at 1920 Fredericksburg Road, just south of Hildebrand. Free parking with security patrol is available.

SPAMALOT features Book and lyrics by Eric Idle and Music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle. The show will run at the Woodlawn Theatre, 1920 Fredericksburg Rd., San Antonio, with direction by Greg Hinojosa and musical direction by Jane Haas.
