On October 14 and 15, 2009, at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, leaders from San Antonio's business and legal communities will come together to present "Ethics Follies®", a musical comedy that teaches business and legal ethics painlessly with singing and dancing.
The local chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel organizes this fun event as part of its Annual Ethics Conference. This year the Follies is called Misbehavin' at the Menger to coincide with the 150th anniversary of San Antonio's historic Menger Hotel. The story draws a parallel between the great depression of 1929 and the current recession and the decline in ethical behavior during both periods. Musical parodies from Broadway musicals, rock and country music address issues such as corporate fraud, embezzlement, and misrepresentation to stockholders and employees. Returning to write, produce and direct the Follies for the fourth year, Lee Cusenbary states, "the Follies raise awareness of these unethical behaviors in an easy to remember way because there's a story and great voices belting out parody lyrics about 2009's ethics issues. It's more engaging than two hours of speeches," explains Cusenbary, the General Counsel of Mission Pharmacal Company. The Follies are approved by the State Bar of Texas for two hours of continuing ethics education. The event is also approved for two hours of continuing education for accountants.
Individual tickets for the October 14th performance at 2:00 p.m. ($60) and the October 15th performance at 7:00 p.m. ($80 - includes a networking reception) may be purchased by calling Amber Clark at (210) 723-8769 or by e-mailing acca@gvtc.com.
A donation from net proceeds from Ethics Follies will be given to The Community Justice Program, a collaborative effort by the legal community to provide free legal services to individuals who may not otherwise have access to the legal system.
