PTC Presents Staged Reading of SLOW FOOD by Wendy MacLeod This Weekend

Pioneer Theatre Company presents Slow Food, the second installment of PTC's new play reading series, called Play-By-Play. Slow Food by Wendy MacLeod runs this weekend, March 6 and 7, 2015. Director Julie Kramer (True Art, Play-By-Play 2014) returns to directs the production.

A vacationing couple celebrates their anniversary at a Greek restaurant in Palm Springs, but will the marriage survive an intrusive waiter who insinuates his way into their meal and their lives?

WENDY MACLEOD is the playwright, and returns after premiering her new play Find and Sign on the main stage in 2012. MacLeod's play The House of Yes became an award-winning Miramax film starring Parker Posey. Her other plays include Sin (The Goodman, Second Stage), Schoolgirl Figure (The Goodman Theatre), The Water Children and Juvenilia (Playwrights Horizons), and Things Being What They Are (Seattle Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre). Her play This Flight Tonight was included in Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, which premiered in L.A., and was seen across the country and in New York at the Minetta Lane. She was the first playwright chosen for The Writers' Room residency at The Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, where she wrote Women in Jeopardy! which just premiered this season at GEVA Theater. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she is the James E. Michael Playwright-in-Residence at Kenyon College and the Artistic Director of the Kenyon Playwrights Conference.

Guest director JULIE KRAMER is a critically acclaimed director and writer known for developing new plays and musicals. She directed last year's Play-By-Play's True Art. She also directed her adaptation of The Best of Everything in New York, which was a New York Times and Time Out Critics' Pick and is published by Dramatists Play Service. Other New York directing includes Mother Load off-Broadway (also national tour), Pearl's Gone Blue (Outstanding Musical, FringeNYC); Hillary (New Georges and The Public Theater); and None of the Above (The Lion). She has also directed for The O'Neill Theatre Center, Dorset Theatre Festival, the HBO Aspen Comedy Festival, The Uno Festival in Canada and the Mesto Zensk Festival in Slovenia. She's a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

JIM BENNETT plays Peter and his wife Irene is played by ALEXANDRA HARBOLD. They are a middle-aged couple vacationing in Palm Springs.

BENNETT returns to acting after a career in theater administration, and was in this season's One Man, Two Guvnors. He is the former Artistic Director of the Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Southern Utah, and he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre from the University of Southern California. He lives in Sandy, Utah, with his wife, Laurel, and their five children.

HARBOLD is Dramaturg for our current production, I Hate Hamlet. She was previously Dramaturg on Of Mice and Men, Assistant Director on Emma, and acted in Hamlet and the Play-By-Play readings of A Public Education. Harbold is Co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Flying Bobcat Theatrical Laboratory. Recent projects include acting in Two Stories (Salt Lake Acting Company), FEAST (NOW-ID, Choreographer Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Playwright Troy Deutsch, & FBTL), and directing The Owl Girl (U of U).

BRIAN NORMOYLE returns to PTC (Clybourne Park) to play the couple's intrusive waiter, Stephen. He lives in Los Angeles where he recently performed with the L.A. Philharmonic, created the role of Joachim in the American premiere of Trio, and starred as Alex in The Little Dog Laughed opposite Greg Louganis. For television, he produced episodes for the new comedy series The Fairy Tales and is the co-creator, co-executive producer, and co-star of the web comedy Servitude. Favorite regional theatre credits include four seasons with the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
