Present Laughter at Sierra Theatre Company

Sierra Stages and Sierra Theatre Company join forces to produce Present Laughter, Noël Coward's comedic masterpiece!

A true treat will take the stage this summer with Present Laughter, Noël Coward's brilliant comedy! Presented as a co-production between Sierra Stages and Sierra Theatre Company, this deliciously witty play will run from July 10 - August 2 the Nevada Theatre in Nevada City, CA.

Present Laughter follows the theatrical chaos surrounding Garry Essendine—a self-absorbed actor whose life is as hilariously complicated as any farce. Between adoring fans, ex-wives, aspiring playwrights, and would-be lovers all vying for his attention, Garry must navigate a whirlwind of romantic entanglements and theatrical mishaps that threaten to upstage his carefully crafted persona.

Noël Coward, the master of sophisticated comedy, wrote Present Laughter as a semi-autobiographical romp that skewers the theatrical world with razor-sharp wit and impeccable timing. Known for his ability to blend biting social commentary with irresistible charm, Coward’s comedy sparkles with clever dialogue and delightfully outrageous situations.

"Coward's genius lies in his ability to make us laugh at characters we recognize—the vanity, the ego, the beautiful absurdity of people in love with themselves and their drama," says director Scott Gilbert. Present Laughter features a fantastic cast of local talent, including Trish Adair, Vicki Colombo, Kimberly Ewing, John Gardiner, Holli Hiraoka-Hurst, Tina Marie Kelley, Harrison McCormick, Judy Merrick, Robert Peterson, and Hunter Reed as Garry Essendine.

Tickets range from $27-32, with a "pay-what-you-can" performance on Thursday, July 10,  $20 preview tickets on Friday, July 11, and $15 student tickets available throughout the run. After sixteen years of operation, Present Laughter will be Sierra Stages’ final production. This co-production will introduce audiences to Sierra Theatre Company, a new organization dedicated to continuing the mission of bringing high-quality, accessible theatre to Nevada County.
