Sutter Creek Theatre to Present French Guitarist Pierre Bensusan, 3/11

By:
On Friday, March 11, internationally-renowned French-Algerian acoustic guitarist, singer and composer Pierre Bensusan's (www.pierrebensusan.com) will grace the stage at Sutter Creek Theatre (a former silent film theatre with incredible acoustics!) as part of his 2016 North American tour - the beginning of his fifth decade of worldwide touring.

Pierre began this tour with a stellar performance in The Bridge Jazz Festival and garnered him yet another rave review, this time from Greg Haymes of the Albany Times Union who wrote:

"Friday's edition of the Bridge Jazz Festival also featured French-Algerian acoustic guitarist Pierre Bensusan, who is most often seen around these parts at Caffe Lena, but his dazzling fretboard work and equally compelling scat singing proved without a doubt that he was worthy of a slot at the jazz fest."

Others have written:
"With a rare elegance, Mr Bensusan measures every detail of tone, articulation and counterpoint." (NY Times)
"Marching to the beat of a different strum, Bensusan mixes folk, jazz, ethnic, blues and Celtic elements in ways that suggest a truly borderless world." (Washington Post ) Often referred to as the "Mozart of Guitar", Bensusan is also calling this tour the celebration of a dynamic 36-year association with his longtime guitar-maker Lowden Guitars (http://www.lowdenguitars.com).

The tour as well marks two more recent international accolades bestowed upon Bensusan recently:
- At the end of his concert at the Queen's Hall in Newtonards in the Ards International Guitar Festival (Northern Ireland), Bensusan was given the festival's "Lifetime Achievement Award". He is in good company with previous winners including Martin Taylor, Martin Simpson, John Renbourn and Davey Graham.

- Bensusan's 3-CD set titled 'ENCORE', an ambitious and expansive retrospective collection celebrating his 40 years as a globetrotting concert performer won in the "LIVE PERFORMANCE ALBUM" category at the 2014 INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS (The IMAs). His CD set was nominated early in the year and through votes from the listening public was ALSO awarded the prize of "Vox Pop Winner (the fan-determined portion of The IMAs)," receiving more votes than any other artist in any other category!
