SRT’s Gypsy Gala Set for March 3

By:

Sierra Repertory Theatre will celebrate the opening of its 33rd season on Saturday, March 3, when it hosts its annual gala dinner, auction and opening night of the classic Broadway musical Gypsy.

Tickets are on sale now for the evening celebration, which begins with a champagne reception, silent auction and catered dinner at the Sonora Elks Lodge. Guests then move to Sierra Rep’s East Sonora theatre for a short live auction and the evening’s main event – opening night of Gypsy, directed by SRT Artistic Director Scott Viets.

Considered one of the very best American musicals, it’s the musical tale of Burlesque entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee, a blockbuster show filled with memorable songs like “Let Me Entertain You,” “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” and “Together Wherever We Go.”

"It's right up there with The King and I and Fiddler on the Roof as far as the great musical books,"  Viets says.  "Take away the music and it stands alone as a perfectly crafted play.  Add all these fantastic songs and the show soars above the rest.  It's the epitome of the Broadway musical."

Following the show, the party continues next door at the theater’s rehearsal studio with a dessert reception with the cast.

The evening’s auctions will feature an array of items including vacation getaways to Hawaii, Palm Springs and Las Vegas, as well as gifts, artwork, jewelry, special SRT signature events and much more.

Tickets are $115 per person or $85 for subscribers, including reception, dinner by Any Event catering, opening night show and post-show party. (Season ticket s will be punched.) VIP Sponsor Tables are also available at $1250 per table of eight, with extras including premier seating at dinner and theater, recognition in the program, and a private early evening reception with Sierra Rep directors. Businesses are also invited to purchase popular sponsorship signs for $250. All proceeds benefit the theater’s 2012 season.

“We welcome newcomers and long-time supporters alike to join the fun,” said Viets. “It’s always an elegant evening filled with great friends, food and fun!”
