SARTA Announces Auditions & Current Productions

SARTA has announced upcoming auditions and Current Productions. They are also looking for a few more Volunteers.

The Volunteer count is 4 and the Volunteer Goal is 8. Come to KVIE for their fall fundraising event. SARTA will be staffing the phone lines and could use some volunteers to help out ON Wednesday, November 30th - The shift is from 7:45-11pm.

If you can be a part of this event please e-mail the SARTA office at sarta@sarta.com and leave your name, phone number and email so you can get on the list and in the studio for a night of fun, food and fund raising for a local resource. If you are lucky, you may even get a tour of the KVIE studios. 

Emergency Audition:

Bob and Ro Productions is seeking a teenage to young adult MALE (age 14 to 20s) to play two roles: The White Stag & A Wolf in the Witch's Army in their upcoming holiday production of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." This is a non-musical script of the classic story by C.S. Lewis, Dramatized by Joseph Robinette. The cast is a combination of adults and youth, and all other roles have already been filled. This role opened up after rehearsals have started when the original actor had to drop out for personal reasons. The production is co-directed by Michael Peters and Jen Rathner.

Rehearsals are currently underway and are held Monday through Thursday evenings, through December 1st. One actor needed to play both roles, which have very few lines, but this actor would be part of a large battle scene using swords, so someone with stage combat experience would be preferred. The production performs for the first three weekends in December (2nd - 18th), on Friday evenings, Saturday matinees and evenings, and Sunday matinees. All rehearsals and performances are at The Studio Theatre, 1028 R Street in downtown Sacramento.

Oatmeal and Kisses needs 2 actors & a director: 

Arden Playhouse is looking for a director for and two actors for Murray Schisgal's comedy, Oatmeal and Kisses. Performance dates: Jan. 13-Feb. 25, Mat: Jan. 22 & Feb. 5 (Rehearsals will start soon, with time allowed for the holidays.). (Produced with permission of Dramatist Play Service, Inc.).

Schneider is a dynamo, living life to the fullest. But, with age, there have been consequences. A short stay in the hospital because of a heart attack has reminded him of his mortality. Although it has made him concerned about what might become of Roxanne, his much younger wife, he has forgotten that he agreed to get help in changing his life-style. When the specialist arrives from the hospital things start to get complicated. Peter is a physical fitness doctor who lives with his patients for several weeks while he gets them to change their diet and other risky habits. At first Schneider objects to this plan but after Roxanne uses some charm and threats, he agrees. But Schneider has another motive in mind. Later, after Schneider has become a health-nut, it appears that he has been trying to get Peter to marry Roxanne...and the doctor is certainly enamored of her by this point. But, at last, it is Roxanne who gets exactly what she wants.

He's the life of the party until his fiancé, Linda, leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. When he meets an Julia, an admiring young waitress, Robbie falls madly in love. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever. 42nd Street Auditions at EDMT:

El Dorado Musical Theatre will audition for its Encore production, 42nd Street, Monday, November 14th at 3:30 p.m. Auditions will be held at EDMT's rehearsal facility located in the El Dorado Hills Business Park at 5011 Golden Foothill Parkway, Suite #4.

42nd Street is a big, bold musical set in 1933 that celebrates the stuff that dreams are made of. The story begins with a naïve, young actress named Peggy Sawyer who has come to audition for a new Broadway musical. Unfortunately, due to her nervousness, Peggy arrives to the audition late and misses her chance to join the chorus. Luckily, Peggy soon catches the eye of the famous director, Julian Marsh, and he gives Peggy her big break. However, the show's aging leading lady, Dorothy Brock, quickly grows to dislike Peggy. On opening night, Ms. Brock falls and breaks her ankle. Peggy takes the roll and learns twenty-five pages, six songs and ten dance numbers and becomes a star.

Featuring songs such as "We're in the Money," "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," and "Forty-Second Street." This production will be filled with high energy, skilled tap dancing and plenty of singing and dancing. Performances run from February 17th - March 4th, 2012, at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Folsom.

All who audition should dress to dance. If you know how to tap, bring tap shoes. Be prepared to sing a song of up to one minute in length to either a background CD, acapella or with the piano accompanist.

Clarence is captured and forced to fight for his life in a tournament at court. Everything turns out happily in the end in this delightful, whimsical fairy tale for both children and adults.

Auditions for Workshop Reading of No Casinos:

CASTING CALL for a ONE NIGHT Workshop Reading with music on Dec. 4, 2011 at 7 p.m.

"No Casinos" is an original musical by local playwright Letha Dawson and composer, Tom Dennis, White Lake, MI.

A female factory worker tries to stop casinos from being built in her town. She fails to stop the casino and at not falling in love. 

This is a workshop reading-actors & vocalists will read from the script.

Playwrights Collaborative Meeting will be at California Stage Theatre, 2509 "R" Street, Sacramento, CA.

Rehearsals for vocalists will be arranged on an individual basis. For non-vocal parts, there will be 2 rehearsals, near the time for the workshop/reading, to be arranged.

Child Actors, ages 4-6, needed for commercial shot at Fairytale Town:

Fairytale Town is shooting a promotional TV commercial in conjunction with KVIE 6 and is looking for 10 to 12 child actors, male & female, ages 4-6 -ALL ETHNICITIES.

The commercial will show young children enjoying the animals and attractions of Fairytale Town.
Some speaking parts may be available. No previous film or stage experience is necessary. The shoot will take place November 15, 2011, with a projected airdate of Spring, 2012.

The shoot will be at Fairytale Town, 3901 Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA, 95822 (In William Land Park--Directly across from the Sacramento Zoo) on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. It will be Outdoors, TBA (Tentatively 10am to 1pm. Subject to change in case of inclement weather).

Young actors must be accompanied by a legal adult guardian at all times. Young actors will be required to interact with animals (rabbits, piglets, sheep, etc.). Adult guardians will be required to sign a photo-release form for the young actors involved. Costumes must be provided by the participants themselves. Costumes should consist of brightly colored play clothes and appropriate outerwear for the season. Please no bold patterns or prints. NO LOGOS, COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL or IMAGES. There is no pay offered for this project.

This is NOT an open call for "extras". All participants will be pre-selected. Our resources are limited and we can only accommodate a maximum of 10-12 young actors for this shoot. You must send an e-mail inquiry with an attached photograph of the young actor to be considered. If you are chosen to participate, you will receive an invitation from Fairytale Town to attend. No one will be admitted to the shoot without a prior invitation from Fairytale Town..

Auditions For Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra:

Auditions will be held for The Teahouse of the Augustby John Patrick, Adapted from the novel by Vern Sneider, and Directed by Diane Fetterly.

"A Comedy about the American Occupation of Okinawa in post-World War II." This hit Broadway production won many awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best American Play of the Year and the Tony Award.

Auditions will be held Saturday, November 19, 9:30-12:30, and Sunday, November 20, 10:00-1:00 at St. Joseph's Cultural Center, 410 S. Church St., Grass Valley. It is not necessary to attend both days. Callbacks TBA.

EDMT Announces Performances for "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" from October 28-November 13, 2011 at Three Stages at Folsom Lake College in Folsom.

On a cold winter night, an old beggar woman comes upon a glorious castle belonging to a young prince. She asks the master of the castle to allow her to stay the night, away from the cold, and in return she will give him a single rose, but the prince is vain and uncaring and turns her away solely for her appearance. As he does this, she warns him not to be fooled by appearances, as true beauty lies within, only to be rejected again. Seeing his horrible heart for what it truly is, she transforms into a beautiful enchantress and turns the prince into a hideous Beast and his servants into different objects. She gives him the rose to use as an hour-glass. The one way he can break the spell is to learn to love another and earn her love in return by the time the last petal falls.
Years later, in a nearby town, a beautiful young woman named Belle lives with her father Maurice, an eccentric inventor. One day she goes to town to buy a book from the local bookseller. On the way she expresses her wish to live in a world like her books, full of adventure, while the townspeople note her unparalleled beauty but find her love of books odd. Belle has also attracted the attentions of Gaston (the locAl Hunter and town hero) who admires her only for her beauty and not her brains. Gaston proposes to Belle but she refuses his offer of marriage.

One night, Maurice is attacked by wolves on a dark path in the woods. He winds up taking refuge at a mysterious castle near the Crossroads, which is inhabited by enchanted objects who were once servants of the prince, including Lumiere (a maitre de turned into a candelabra), Cogsworth (the head of the household turned into a clock), Babette (a flirtatious maid turned into a feather duster), Mrs. Potts (the head of the kitchen turned into a teapot) and her son Chip (a Tea Cup). These characters welcome Maurice, but the Beast orders him locked away for trespassing.
Belle learns of her father's fate and visits the castle. She convinces the Beast to free her father if she takes his place. While Belle is at the Castle, after a series of conflicts, the Beast realizes he must learn to love Belle or remain a Beast forever.
Belle is attacked by wolves in the woods one night, and the Beast is injured coming to her defense. Belle helps him back to the castle and cleans his wounds. Remembering Belle's fondness for books, the Beast gives her his library as a thank you gesture. Belle notices the change in the Beast and a friendship is born.

Gaston becomes aware of Belle's affection for the Beast and organizes a mob to kill him. Belle had left the castle to care for his sick father Maurice, and had lost his will to fight Gaston and the Mob in her absence. Seeing Belle return, the Beast turns on Gaston, but spares his life. Belle and the Beast are reunited briefly, only to see Gaston run through the Beast with a dagger. Gaston loses his footing and falls to his death. The Beast is gravely wounded and Belle rushes to his side. She professes her love for the Beast before the last petal falls and he is transformed back into the prince. She looks into his eyes and sees the Beast within and they embrace, before a finale in which they sing of how their lives were changed by love.

The show will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm through November 20th. All performances will be held at the Chautauqua Playhouse, 5325 Engle Road in the La Sierra Community Center in Carmichael. Admission is $19 general and $17 students, seniors, children and SARTA members.

Set in fog-bound London in 1880, Gaslight is an edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that tells the story of the Manninghams of Angel Street. Under the guise of kindliness, the handsome Mr. Manningham is torturing his wife into insanity in hopes of getting away with murder. One of the longest running plays in Broadway history, Gaslight is the perfect Victorian-era thriller full of intrigue, treachery and good, old-fashioned melodramatic fun. The production is directed by Jon Jackson and features Sherry Walck, Simon Hunt, Paul Fearn, Lisa Derthick and Shannon Burkett. Set design is by Rodger Hoopman with costumes by Eileen Beaver. Lighting design is by Don Myers.

California Stage begins its 20th year Friday Night with "Medal of Honor Rag"-- a dramatic, haunting play.

About one in three Vietnam veterans suffered from full or partial Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after the war-it is estimated that over 300,000 of our returning soldiers from the Middle East will have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). "Medal of Honor Rag" by Tom Cole is a solemn true narration of one soldier's plight. It is a dramatic, haunting play.

Dale "D.J." Jackson was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts in Vietnam in the 70's. Disillusioned, despondent and depressed, he has seen countless psychiatrists since his return to the United States from the war and his initial reaction to this new psychiatrist is one of hostility and suspicion. What follows are bitter and emotional exchanges as these two individuals, both guilty survivors of war, verbally spar
