Runaway Stage to Present 9 TO 5, Opening 1/4

By:

The music and spirit of Dolly Parton come to life on the 24th Street Theatre stage in downtown Sacramento this January as Runaway Stage Productions and its full-sized resident orchestra present the Sacramento community regional premiere of 9 to 5: The Musical.
Based on 1980 hit movies of the same name, the musical follows three women when their boss pushes them to a boiling point and a series of accidents leads the co-workers to concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world. It's a hilarious, thought-provoking and romantic story of friendship and girl power about teaming up and taking care of business.
"Audiences can expect a fun, upbeat, musical with great music, hilarious comedy and three wonderful leading ladies," said RSP Artistic Director Bob Baxter.
Casting highlights include Ruth Phillips (recently seen as Golda in RSP's Fiddler on the Roof) as Violet. Andrea St Clair, who just finished playing Grace in RSP's Annie, will play Judy, and Cassie March, who starred in RSP's Legally Blonde, will play the role originated by Dolly Parton, herself, Doralee. Also, of note is the return of Tevye Ditter as the Boss Mr. Hart, Tevye was last seen in RSP's Kiss Me Kate!
I love bringing new fun light hearted shows to RSP audiences," Baxter said. " Audiences will relate to the story in many ways. Haven't we all had a boss or co-worker that we wanted a little revenge on? Even a little? Also, this show is very close the hit film starring Dolly Parton, Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda. What's not to relate to? Come and see. I'm sure you will agree."
Bob Baxter directs, Darryl Strohl choreographs, Deann Golz vocal directs, Glenn Disney directs music, Lillian Baxter costume designs, Sherrika Darnell designs lighting, and Ralph Phillips designs the sets.
