Runaway Stage Productions invites audiences to follow tradition with its production of "Fiddler on the Roof," the classic musical about family, love and changing times during the early 20th century. Performed with RSP's live resident orchestra, the show plays now through September 30 at the 24th Street Theatre in downtown Sacramento. Check out photos of the cast below!With well-known songs like the humorous "If I Were A Rich Man" and the famous bottle dance, "Fiddler on the Roof" follows dairyman as he tries to balance his five daughters' desires with his family's Jewish traditions. Meanwhile, the family deals with the Russian oppression of their Jewish community.
RSP Producing Director Bob Baxter returns to the role of Tevye for this production, marking his third time playing the leading man – once for RSP and once for American River College. The original Broadway production of "Fiddler" opened in 1964 and won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It set a record for the longest running Broadway musical, and has been adapted into several successful revivals and an enduring film that starred Topol as Tevye. Music by Jerry Bock; Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick; Book by Joseph Stein. Darryl Strohl choreographs, Deann Golz vocal directs and Bob Baxter directs.
