Direct from Shanghai, the Harris Center at Folsom Lake College is proud to presentThe Shanghai Acrobats of the People's Republic of China in Shanghai Nights: Dream Journey.

Founded in 1959, this family-friendly company epitomizes the thrilling combination of strength, agility and balance for which an audience holds its breath, sits up straight on The Edge of their seats, and then breaks into thunderous applause. The list of awards the troupe has won in both acrobatic and circus competitions - at home and abroad - is extensive; they have become one of the most influential and competitive acrobatic companies in China and the world.

The Shanghai Acrobats of the People's Republic of China perform five performances of Shanghai Nights: Dream Journey on Friday, September 16, 2016, 7:30 pm; Saturday, September 17, 2016, 2 & 7:30 pm and Sunday, September 18, 2016, 2 & 7 pm. Tickets are $19-$44; Premium $49 with a 10% discount on Sunday evening single tickets. Tickets are available online at www.harriscenter.net or from the Harris Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from noon to 6 pm Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show times. The Harris Center is located on the west side of the Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.

The performance - an opening, then four acts and a finale - begins with a dreaming boy who enters into a world of fantasy in which he sees a beautiful fairy phoenix that flies over the sea, wings splashing the waves along the coast. The dreaming boy is attracted by the beauty and runs into the water...

From hoop diving to performances on the aerial rings and teeterboard; from impossible juggling with hands and feet to some unbelievable feats on unicycles, this world-class acrobatic performance is guided by a gentle narrative, beautiful costumes, wonderful lighting and lovely music.

Since the 1980s, the company has been invited and successively performed in more than thirty countries including the United States, Germany, Spain, Britain, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, Turkey, Canada, Indonesia, Fiji, Cameroon, Guinea and Nigeria. Through the frequent activities of the international tours and performances, the troupe has not only introduced Chinese acrobatic and circus arts worldwide, but also promoted friendship with the peoples of various countries.

In the past 15 years, the company and its acts have performed for tours of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Mystere of Cirque du Soleil at

in Las Vegas, and Stardust's World Christmas circuses in Germany and the Netherlands. This official tour of North America is under the auspices and aegis of the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.
