Clint Black, Chita Rivera, The Capitol Steps and More Added to Harris Center's 2013-14 Season

The Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College is always adding new shows-always. Since the 2013-14 Season of Performing Arts was announced over the summer, a stunning array of new performances have been added to the mix.

Big Names:

Clint Black. The prolific country music singer-songwriter returns with an all-new acoustic show as an encore to his two sold performances last year. (February 27-March 1)

Chita Rivera: A Legendary Celebration. The Broadway legend recreates signature moments from her career including numbers from West Side Story; Sweet Charity; Chicago; Kiss of the Spiderwoman; Bye, Bye, Birdie and The Rink, backed by the Folsom Symphony. (February 24-25)

America's Got Talent Winner Michael Grimm. He mesmerized America's Got Talent with a roof-raising rendition of "When A Man Loves A Woman," earning him the $1 million prize and the headline slot in the AGT Tour. (September 22)

The Capitol Steps. Putting the "mock in democracy," this group - originally culled from ex US Senate staffers - have released 33 recordings, performed on all the big networks and is a certified capital region favorite, parodying familiar pop songs by giving them a political twist. (October 2).

Lonestar. A rare, intimate acoustic concert with this Country Music superstar group now celebrating its 20th Anniversary. (February 17)

National Dance Company of Ireland: Rhythm of the Dance. Since it debuted in 1999, this show has played to over 5 million fans in 33 countries. An inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish Celts through history. (March 17-18)

Surf's Up Jan and Dean Show with the Surfaris. Dean Torrence and the Surf City All Stars perform hits from The Beach Boys and beyond, joined by the Surfaris whose hits included the surf anthem "Wipe Out." (June 29)

Theatrical Concert Productions:

This is the 70's. Following on the heels of last season's well received This is the 60's, the "Me Decade" is captured in music, film footage, costume and high concept stage design. (September 28-29)

Elvis Lives. Four eras of The King are performed by four winner's of Elvis Presley Enterprises' annual Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. With iconic media and imagery made available from the Graceland archives, the set list for this multimedia presentation includes big hits and lesser known gems. (October 7-8)

Jason Petty's Swingin' Cowboys. Obie Award-winner Jason Petty returns with a tribute to the music of the Great American West, joined by Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame inductee Carolyn Martin and her terrific Western Swing band. (January 12-19)

Menopause The Musical. This hilarious musical parody set to classic tunes from the '60s, '70s and '80s has been performed to millions of women in over 450 American cities - a great "girls night out." (January 15-17)

From Manhattan to Paris with Linda Purl and Lee Lessack. Broadway/TV star Linda Purl and the award-winning Lee Lessack return in their new cabaret show that spans the Atlantic, bridging romance from two of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. (February 21-23)

One Night of Queen. Performed by Gary Mullen & The Works, this show recreates the look, sound, pomp and showmanship of arguably the greatest rock band of all time. (March 3)

Joni Morris Tribute to the Music of Patsy Cline. "A polished, rollicking and often soulful Country-Western music show" (San Francisco Chronicle) that evokes Patsy Cline through song, showmanship and vintage authentic costumes. Joni Morris' "voice is the genuine article" (Oakland Tribune). (May 30-June 1)

Intimate Theatre:

(performed in the 200-seat Stage 2 City Studio Theater)

Aquila Theatre Company: Fahrenheit 451. Ray Bradbury's classic visionary parable of a society gone awry, performed by the nation's top classic theatre touring company.

Tied Up in Knotts. Karen Knotts one-woman show honors her late father, beloved character actor Don Knotts, in this heartfelt behind-the-scenes look at the man that played Barney Fife and the story of her own her life and career as an entertainer growing up in his shadow. (March 21-23)

A Couple of Blaguards. Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes) and his brother Malachy McCourt's autobiographical account of their years growing up in poverty in Ireland in a show with "an unholy amount of charm!" (Washington Post). (April 24-27)

Jazz & World Music:

Jazz Divas Series. Grammy Award winner, and probably the world's top jazz vocalist, Dianne Reeves (April 15) headlines a series that also includes jazz great Carmen Lundy with special guest Patrice Rushen (September 21) and Vivian Lee's Tribute to Billie Holiday (November 22-24).

Vinicius Cantuária Quartet Drawing from the rich history of Brazilian music and integrating it with jazz, avant-garde and pop, his concerts draw raves: "He offered a set that was a masterpiece of contemporary music, regardless of definition" (Los Angeles Times). (October 3)

New York Gypsy All Stars. "We are taking what the Gypsies did, traveling from India to the Balkans and on to Western Europe and putting together the best musical ideas from every nation along the way. We're open to the world, and we just take everything we like and make it one," explains clarinet wonder Ismail Lumanovski. (October 30-31)

Piano Jazz Series. In Jon Weber's From Joplin to Jarrett: 100 Years of Piano Jazz (January 23-26), the new host of NPR's Piano Jazz show provides a musical survey of the history of jazz piano. The Kenny Werner Trio (February 14-15) is led by an acclaimed jazz master, while rising star Clarice Assad (March 27-28) combines influences of her Brazilian roots with jazz and classical music to come up with a vibrant new fresh sound all of her own.

Antonio Zambujo: The New Fado. One of the leading exponents of Portugal's soulful folk music tradition known as fado, Zambujo "upholds fado's sense of longing and tragic dignity as he brings it into modern close-up." (New York Times) (January 27)

Grace Kelly Jazz Quartet. Grace Kelly's prolific career includes seven albums, four ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Awards and two Boston Music Awards as Jazz Artist of the Year, all while still in her teens. As a saxophonist and vocalist, she has garnered accolades from jazz luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Harry Connick, Jr. and Phil Woods. "I've heard the future of jazz and it is Grace Kelly" (National Public Radio). (February 28 - March 1)

Voices of Afghanistan. Ustad Farida Mahwash and Homayoun Sakhi, two legends of Afghan music, lead a traditional Afghan musical ensemble in a vibrant musical journey that honors the past while exploring Afghanistan's increasingly global contemporary life and expression. (March 16)

The Great Guitars with Martin Taylor, Frank Vignola and Peppino D'Agostino. Three of the finest acoustic guitarists of their generation - in solo, duet and trio performances. (April 14)

Alasdair Fraser & the San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers. Master Scottish Fiddler Alasdair Fraser leads a stage full of 50 fiddlers creating a sound as lively as a dance band, as majestic as a symphony orchestra. (April 16)

Huun Huur Tu: Throat Singers of Tuva. From central Asia, the group who almost singlehandedly introduced the outside world to the boundless wealth of Tuvan traditions when they began tourng in the '90s. Known especially for their "throat signing," in which one voice sings two and even three notes simultaneously. (April 17)

Formerly known as Three Stages at Folsom Lake College, the Harris Center launched its third season of performing arts in August with three sold out performances by Kenny Loggins.
