Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre 16, 17, 18 and 19 May 2013 will introduce a new creative project - the staging of "Othello" by Verdi, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the composer.

Giuseppe Verdi - the author of operas, which are already the second century held one of the records of popularity in the playbill, the repertoire of singers and in the hearts of listeners. Great maestro is not only a symbol of Italian music, Italian spirit, but also of the opera. So such date as the 200th anniversary of the birth, can not pass unnoticed. Italy - and the world - devoted to this date the most sumptuous feasts.

In Verdi year Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre has also become a party to the anniversary of the marathon. To this end it was chosen "Othello" and put it invited the creative team clearly declared itself in the play "Le Comte Ory" Pavel Klinichev (conductor), Igor Ushakov (director), Alexey Kondratiev (Production Designer) Irena Belousov (Costume Designer), Evgeny Vinogradov (lighting designer).

This opera is released from the entire heritage of Verdi. The composer managed to lay in it and drama, and vocal delights. He used the vocals and music to express the dramatic situation, thus making the material as much as possible compact. Emotions arise here and now, the situation is rapidly deployed, requiring the performers on the stage of the instant reactions.

We considered several options for the works of Verdi, but settled on "Othello" - dramaturgically perfectly constructed opera compared with what was previously created by the composer. Verdi's very detailed work on the libretto by eliminating all secondary to his concept of the line, leaving only concentrated relationships of several characters. "Othello" is not like what the composer wrote before, this is not the Verdi, which we know from "La Traviata" and "Aida." I always say, the soloists, the music in this opera is not born in the orchestra, and comes from the thoughts, emotions, impulse, born inside the character.

My job as a director - to convey the internal tension that arises in the relationship of the characters of the opera. However, no matter what I did I catch myself constantly that this or that thought can not find an equivalent expression in the mise en scene - it would be desirable to enlarge the add something else. But then comes the understanding that all the magic of this opera - in the simplicity and all the most important thing is manifested in attitudes born of misunderstanding, reticence - and that from this there is tension.

Today's "Othello" can not just be a beautiful picture - there must be a reason, and not simple, and sacred. In another way, it does not, because the spectators sitting in the hall, everyone can see, hear and feel the skin. Fortunately, the opera house is still perhaps the most direct impact on the audience!
