Irvington Town Hall Theater (ITHT) returns with a second season of their Stage Door Series, where new works in progress are presented in a relaxed setting without sets, costumes, or props. The season will kick off on Sunday, October 4th at 3:00pm with a reading of BEGGARS RAIN by Robert Firpo-Cappiello followed by a Q&A with the playwright.

This season, the process was overseen by ITHT commissioner Beth Ryan and a selection committee; Firpo-Cappiello's mesmerizing play unanimously won over the committee amid many impressive submissions. Season two is highlighting local playwrights and will also feature a teen playwright in the spring.

"What an amazing amount of submissions we received," says Beth Ryan. "It was fascinating to read and discuss all of them this summer. I believe audiences will really enjoy Robert's piece when they see it on October 4th."

In BEGGARS RAIN, a hobo known only as Dooley hops trains during the depression-era of America, where unexpected friendships and brutal violence wait around each bend of the tracks. Pushed to his physical and emotional limits on his odyssey, Dooley finds the tragic hero in himself when he saves the life of a mysterious runaway.

Robert Firpo-Cappiello's collaborations with playwright/lyricist Lisa Ferber, including Oh, Mister Cadhole!, An Evening with Molly Hadafew, and Are Not My Foibles Amusing? have been presented at Altered Stages, the Duplex, and the Brick Theatre. Robert is editor in chief of Budget Travel magazine (budgettravel.com) and an Emmy-nominated composer (the Guiding Light). He makes regular appearances on behalf of Budget Travel on PIX11 Morning News and the Weather Channel's Wake Up with Al starring Al Roker, and made his show business debut at the age of five on WOR-TV's Romper Room.

Firpo-Cappiello has said that if the play were a film, it would be rated R, so this reading is for older teens and above. "Beggars Rain takes an unflinching look at what it really means to be homeless or transient, disconnected from your family and a sense of community," says "Firpo-Cappiello. "I'm really looking forward to hearing from the audience in the Q&A session after the reading. A playwright spends so much time writing alone; it's a privilege to get a play on its feet and get an immediate, honest response."
