Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share the home in Bucks County, PA, where they grew up. Dogged by regret, they bicker about the circumstances of the lives they cannot escape. Suddenly, their movie-star sister Masha swoops in like a hurricane with her much younger boy toy, Spike. Meanwhile, cleaning-woman Cassandra, who (with somewhat dubious accuracy) can predict the future, foresees a threat to the stability of Vanya and Sonia’s lives. While long-simmering conflicts threaten to become apocalyptic, Spike meets and introduces the family to aspiring young actress Nina, whom Masha sees as a potential rival for Spike’s affections. The house is thrust into chaos as its residents and visitors get swept up in an intoxicating mixture of lust, rivalry, disappointment, and the sudden possibility of escape in Christopher Durang’s sharp, funny, and surprisingly touching comedy.
