THE WEDDING SINGER Begins Today North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre
Bright Colors. Big Hair. Bigger Hearts! North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre rewinds to the 1980s with their final production of the 2015-2016 season, THE WEDDING SINGER: THE MUSICAL, which begins today, May 27th, and continues through June 12th, 2016.
Based on the 1998 Adam Sandler movie, THE WEDDING SINGER takes us back to 1985, a time when hair was big, collars were up, and the wedding singer, Robbie Hart (John Millsaps), just might be the coolest guy in the room. After all, he's the life of the party, until his own fiancee, Linda (Casey Cleland), leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia (Lauren Knott), a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark (Mark Olexik), and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
"This show has so much nostaliga, cultural and iconic references, big dance numbers, and touching moments. It's a great way to visit the theatre and leave feeling awesome," says Director and Choreographer, Chasta Hamilton Calhoun. "We collectively believe in the motto of the show which is 'Love Is What We Do', and we are excited to bring that love to the stage at North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre."
THE WEDDING SINGER features an ensemble of 17 local actors singing and dancing their way through the 2 hour and 20 minute show. Costume Designer, Jessica Pissini Biviano, outfits the cast in nearly 200 costumes. Michael Santangelo shapes the pop-rock sound of the musical, and Jeremy Diamond and Tanner Stone are bringing Ridgefield, New Jersey to life through their lighting and scenic design. Jess Barbour produces.
THE WEDDING SINGER with Music by Matthew Skylar, Book by Chad Bequelin and Tim Herlihy, and Lyrics by Chad Bequelin is performed May 27-28, June 2-4, and June 9-11 at 8pm and May 29, June 5, and June 12 at 3pm. Performances are at North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre (7113-31 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC 27615).
