Eric Woodall Joins NC Theatre As Artistic Director

North Carolina Theatre, the region's premiere nonprofit professional theatre, is proud to announce the hiring of a familiar face as the theatre's new Artistic Director. Broadway casting director and Benson, NC native, Eric Woodall, will join the NC Theatre team in November. Eric will provide artistic direction for all programming, including mainstage shows, the theatre's Conservatory training, and new works development.

Eric has a long history with NC Theatre, dating back to his time performing on stage and as a student of NC Theatre Conservatory. Over the last 16 years, Eric has been working as one of New York's top casting directors in the office of Tara Rubin Casting. Through casting and developing new musicals, Eric has been lucky enough to work alongside big names of Broadway and beyond, including, Stephen Sondheim, Cameron Mackintosh, William Finn, Sir Richard Eyre, Stephen Daldry, Susan Stroman, Stephen Schwartz, Casey Nicholaw, James Lapine, Phyllida Lloyd, and Hal Prince. A few of his Broadway casting credits include Dear Evan Hansen, The Band's Visit, Summer, Jersey Boys, Sunset Boulevard, Aladdin, Falsettos, Les Miserables, Phantom Of The Opera, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, and Mamma Mia!. This past July he was named by American Theatre Magazine as one of the "6 Theatre Workers You Should Know". For NC Theatre he has directed such hits as Jesus Christ Superstar, Gypsy, Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, Steel Magnolias, and more.

As a director, Eric served as the Resident Director of the Broadway, Las Vegas, and National touring companies of Mamma Mia!. In addition to his NC Theatre directorial credits, which also includes the theatre's upcoming production of Mamma Mia!, Eric has worked locally in the Triangle directing for theatre's like Theatre Raleigh and Playmakers Repertory as well as traveled the country putting his spin on shows like West Side Story, Big River, and On Golden Pond at Casa Mañana in Fort Worth, Texas and Amadeus at the Memphis Playhouse on the Square.

Eric will succeed NC Theatre's longtime Artistic Director, Casey Hushion. Casey has provided artistic direction to the theatre for close to 10 years and has directed 19 NC Theatre productions.
