Common Wealth Endeavors to Launch 2016 with Kit Brookman's SMALL AND TIRED
Common Wealth Endeavors continues its mission, to present new works from the English speaking world to Triangle audiences, with a new play from a rising young playwright, Kit Brookman. Directed by Gregor McElvogue and starring Jane Holding, Justin Brent Johnson, Justin Peoples, Linh Schladweiler and Laurel Ullman, the play reworks the Ancient Greek myths surrounding the house of Atreus, setting them in a very recognizable landscape: the suburban back yard.
This is the first US production of an Australian play that examines the prolonged aftermath of a devastated family unit -- one that loves, destroys and survives. First produced at the Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney the play reveals how secrets and tragedies can ripple for decades, twisting the weave that binds families together, warping the emotions until the presence of love becomes blurred and indistinct.
The Common Wealth Endeavors production will run at Common Ground Theatre in Durham, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., January 7 - 23, 2016, with matinees at 3 p.m. on January 10 and 17. The performance on January 7 is a 'pay-what-you-can' preview, with a $5 minimum. Opening night is Friday January 8th, 2016.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors/students/military. Call (919) 410.8631 or visit www.fromcommonwealth.com for more information.
Common Wealth Endeavors is a theatrical cooperative, organized as a Limited Liability Corporation under North Carolina law. We present English language drama that originates from countries outside the US, in the belief that from our common language there is a common wealth of cultural understanding that can be shared through common experiences. Common Wealth Endeavors is a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Creative contributors are paid on a fee-for-hire basis. Any profits arising from productions go to fund new endeavors.
