Common Ground Theatre to Present CROOKED, 11/13-15

By:

Skydive Productions and Common Ground Theatre's Small Series presents Crooked, by Catherine Trieshmann, running for three shows only, November 13 through 15 at Common Ground Theater at 4815B Hillsborough Road in Durham.

Crooked follows fourteen-year-old Laney (Ana Radulescu) and her overly realistic mother (Amber Wood) after they move to the South in order to seek out a new life, far away from their past. But things begin to shift when Laney meets Maribel (Leigha Vilen); the local teenage missionary. The two set off on a religious and sexual awakening that leaves Laney's mother a little concerned. Trieshmann's language carries you into their world, and as the play develops the meaning of her words open up and will leave you astounded at their true identity.

This is a co-production with new company Skydive Productions, started by East Chapel Hill Highschool recent graduate Radulescu. "I wanted to start a theater company with the goal of giving a space where minorities can be the majority. In order for any project to be considered by Skydive, it needs to be able to support at least sixty percent business minorities." Crooked is almost entirely run by women and is being supported by the local networking group Ladies of Triangle Theatre.

"Part of the mission of Common Ground Theatre is to support those who want to create new art and to nurture our future artists," explains Devra Thomas, Common Ground Executive Director. "Crooked is the culmination of an intensive production-oriented internship for Ms. Radelscu and I am grateful for the women sharing their talent and training the next generation of theater leaders."

Sharing directing responsibilities are Jules Odendahl-James and Amanda Hahn, with Sonya Drum consulting on technical direction.
