Carolina Ballet Holds A Benefit Screening Of THE RED SHOES 5/3
Carolina Ballet invites you to a special one-night-only screening of the digitally restored and re-mastered print of The Red Shoes, co-directed and produced by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Released in 1948 The Red Shoes is a cinematic masterpiece, the most famous ballet film ever made (The New York Times) and a visual marvel for its breathtaking dancing and brilliant use of the Technicolor process.
A talkback session with Martin Scorsese's longtime film editor, three-time Academy Award®-winner (Raging Bull, The Aviator and The Departed) Thelma Schoonmaker, director/producer Michael Powell's widow, follows the screening.
A limited number of tickets are also available for a post-film dessert, coffee and wine reception at Coquette Brasserie with Ms. Schoonmaker, Carolina Ballet's Artistic Director Robert Weiss, and Carolina Ballet principal dancers Timour Bourtasenkov, Gabor Kapin, Melissa Podcasy, Margaret Severin-Hansen, and Lilyan Vigo. Proceeds from this screening and reception will benefit Carolina Ballet.
