Burning Coal Theatre Company to Present (THREE MAN) TEMPEST, 12/5-22
Burning Coal Theatre Company will present (Three Man) Tempest by William Shakespeare, adapted and directed by Randolph Curtis Rand, December 5 - 22, 2013. The production runs Thursdays through Saturdays, December 5 - 7, 12 - 14 and 19 - 21 at 7:30 pm and Sundays, December 8, 15 and 22 at 2 pm. All tickets are $25, or $20 for seniors (65+) and $15 for students. All Thursday evening tickets are $15. William Shakespeare's The Tempest was the next to last play the bard ever wrote. It deals with a deposed King, Prospero, who has been banished by his own brother, Antonio, to an island full of strange creatures made of both air (Ariel) and earth (Caliban). Prospero uses his significant education to master the island and its creatures, and there he rules with his virginal daughter, Miranda. But a storm at sea forces a ship carrying Antonio and others to wreck upon the shores of Prospero's island. Finally, Prospero will have to decide whether to seek terrible revenge, or offer forgiveness and, by doing so, rejoin humankind.
The cast is made up of three actors. Randolph Curtis Rand, who appeared at Burning Coal in Conor McPherson's The Seafarer and in Shakespeare's Love's Labours Lost will play Prospero and others. Adam Patterson, a Raleigh native, will play Ariel, Miranda and others. Patterson appeared at Burning Coal in To Kill A Mockingbird in 2010. Carter, a Raleigh based actor who recently appeared at Burning Coal in Shining City, will play Caliban, Trinculo and others.
Randolph Curtis Rand is a New York based theatre artist. For Burning Coal, as director: St. Nicholas (twice), Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Hystorie of Kynge Henrie IV, To Kill a Mockingbird, as performer, Love's Labor's Lost, Pentecost, The Seafarer, Man of La Mancha, and as translator/adaptor, Doll's House, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Henrie IV.Other regional theaters - Actors Theatre of Louisville, Cleveland Public Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Pig Iron Theatre, among others. In NYC he has worked with Joseph Chaikin, Elevator Repair Service, Richard Foreman, The Foundry Theatre, The Joseph Papp Public Theatre, Meredith Monk, Witness Relocation and The Wooster Group. He is a member of the companies Gia Fourakis & Co. in NYC, and Not Man Apart Physical Theatre Ensemble in Los Angeles.

The lighting is by Daniel Winters, a New York City-based lighting designer with a degree from Oberlin College in Ohio. Costumes are by Raleigh's Katy Werlin, who recently completed her master's degree at NYU. Properties and Sound are by Raleigh's Elizabeth Newton and Aharon Segal, respectively. The production stage manager is Elon graduate Steph Scribner.
