Burning Coal Theatre Company presents OAKWOOD LIVES 2017: IMMIGRANT! at the Oakwood Cemetary in May

Burning Coal Theatre Company will present their regular Oakwood "cemetery full of life!" plays in May, this year highlighting notable immigrants and their contributions to the Raleigh community. Directed by George Jack of St. Augustine's University, the plays will run May 19-21, 2017 at the Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh NC. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 6:30pm, Sundaywill be at 2pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Come see a one-of-a-kind performance at Raleigh's "cemetery full of life!" Every year, Burning Coal Theatre teams up with Historic Oakwood Cemetery to present an evening of vignettes about notable people who are resting peacefully there. This year's theme is "Immigrants!". Directed by George Jack, of St. Augustine's University, it will be a celebration of people not born in Raleigh but who came here and worked here and left a legacy of which we could all be proud. We are proud to feature local playwrights and actors in this evening about those who came before.

Each playwright has chosen an immigrant, or immigrants, to write about that have been influential to the Raleigh community. Some immigrated to Raleigh, and some emigrated from Raleigh to somewhere else. Lydia Sbityakov will be writing a play about Whitelaw & Weir (from Scotland and Ireland, respectively). Courtney Pisano will be writing about Manuel Gomez Arnaiz from Spain. Pamela Blizzard will be writing about Margaret, Mary and Minnie Bryan, who immigrated to Brazil from Raleigh - and then back, again! Jason Tyne Zimmerman will be writing about John Monie from Scotland. Alexandra Hubbell will be writing about Albert Barden from England. Ken Walsh will be writing about Michael Bowes, from Newfoundland, and Irene Rockwell and Ginger Bate will team up to write about Farouk Bseiso, a noteworthy soccer (sorry, futbol!) player from Palestine.
