Burning Coal & Mallarme Chamber Players Team Up for a Chilling Event 10/28

Nosferatu, a classic silent horror film with a brand new musical score by Eric Schwartz - will be screened on Friday, October 28, 2011, 7 pm at Burning Coal Theatre Company at the Murphey School, 224 Polk Street in downtown Raleigh as part of Burning Coal's MusiCoal series. The score will be performed live by Mallarme Chamber Players as the film is shown. All tickets are $10 and are available only at the door on the evening of the performance. About the Film: Murnau had wanted to film a version of Bram Stoker's Dracula, but his studio was unable to obtain the rights to the story. Murnau decided to film his own version, and made only slight changes to the narrative. The resulting film has many similarities to Stoker's original tale. So many similarities that Stoker's estate sued for copyright infringement and won. Though all existing prints of Nosferatu were court-ordered to be destroyed, a number of copies of the film had already been distributed around the world. These prints were then copied over the years, resulting in Nosferatu gaining a reputation as one of the greatest movie depictions of the vampire legend of all time.

About the Music: is a compilation of North Carolinian composer, Eric Schwartz's horror-themed experimental chamber works, music culled from the history of the horror film score, traditional sources and the work of other contemporary composers. This eclectic film/live music performance will be scary, funny and sometimes just plain weird, and will serve as the perfect Halloween theatrical experience.

The Mallarmé Chamber Players is a flexible ensemble of professional musicians based in Durham, North Carolina, whose mission is to enrich the lives of the community through outstanding chamber music. The ensemble distinguishes itself by its innovative educational programs, its commitment to creative collaboration with other organizations, its creation of significant new work and its dedication to serve a diverse population.

Each summer, Burning Coal Theatre Company, a small professional theatre located in Raleigh, NC presents a summer long music concert series in the historic Murphey School, a recently renovated elementary school auditorium. The series has played host to a rich and eclectic group of musicians over the years, including musicians from China, Russia, Brussels, Arkansas, Indiana and in our own back yard. Tickets to each concert are $10, insuring that all citizens can afford to attend high quality music performances.
