A Trio of Tchaikovsky Masterworks Airs Tonight on WUNC 91.5FM

The North Carolina Symphony and WUNC 91.5FM have partnered to present great music for a summer evening all season long. From now until August 29, favorite Symphony performances will be broadcast every Monday night from 10:00 p.m. to midnight.

Legendary broadcaster David Hartman hosts a program of music recorded live in Raleigh's Meymandi Concert Hall, as well as interviews and insights into some of the finest compositions ever written.

Tonight's program features Symphony Resident Conductor William Henry Curry and principal cello Bonnie Thron in a performance of Tchaikovsky masterworks, including the rarely performed Seventh Symphony.

TCHAIKOVSKY: Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra, Op. 33

TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony No. 7 in E-flat Major

The concert "offered rare and alternate works by Tchaikovsky, played with considerable panache by the orchestra and insightful illumination from the soloist," reported Raleigh's News & Observer following the live performance of the concert last October. "Curry led a rhythmically precise, assuredly controlled reading, coaxing lush tone from the strings, burnished timbre from the woodwinds, and resounding weight from the brass, Brian Blanchard's horn solos especially plangent."
