Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) invites high schools students to register for Young Company, a professional theatre training program and one of MRT's signature education initiatives. Will Rogers, a creative producer, director, and performer, will become the new director for the 2018-19 session. Guest teaching artists this year include MRT alums-playwright, director, and actor Vichet Chum (KNYUM) and fight choreographer Angie Jepson (The Villains' Supper Club)-as well as Los Angeles-based acting teacher Richard Liccardo. The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will begin previews for a limited eight-week run of the Abbey Theatre and the Royal Court Theatre's acclaimed production of CYPRUS AVENUE on Saturday, June 2. The new play, written by David Ireland and directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone, features Stephen Rea, who last performed at The Public in 2008 in Sam Shepard's Kicking a Dead Horse. The run at The Public follows encore engagements at Dublin's Peacock Stage at the Abbey Theatre (April 30-May 19) and the MAC in Belfast (May 23-26). CYPRUS AVENUE will run through Sunday, July 29 in The Public's LuEsther Hall, with an official press opening on Monday, June 25. (more...)

Boundless Theatre today announces Lace Akpojaro to join the company for a major revival of Judy Upton's Confidence. Akpojaro takes on the role of Edwin, replacing Vauxhall Jermaine who has left the company due to unforeseen circumstances. First performed in 1998 at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Artistic Director of Boundless, Rob Drummer, directs the previously announced Tanya Burr in the role of Ella. The full cast are Anna Crichlow (Ruby), Will Pattle (Dean) and Rhys Yates (Ben). The production opens at Southwark Playhouse on 25 May with previews from 23 May. (more...)

WICKED, the “world class West End musical” (Official London Theatre) that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, is delighted to confirm that Alice Fearn (Elphaba), Sophie Evans (Glinda), Melanie La Barrie (Madame Morrible), Andy Hockley (The Wizard), Jack Lansbury (Boq), Laura Pick (Standby for Elphaba) and Carina Gillespie & Maria Coyne* (Standby for Glinda) will all continue in their current roles. Joining them, from Monday 23 July 2018, will be the previously announced David Witts as Fiyero together with Chris Jarman (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Doctor Dillamond and current cast member Rosa O'Reilly, who takes over the role of Nessarose. Today (16 April 2018), rehearsals begin for the West End production of Nina Raine's Consent which will begin previews at the Harold Pinter Theatre on 18 May with its opening night on 29 May 2018. Directed by Roger Michell and originally co-produced and commissioned by Out of Joint, this strictly limited 12-week run is booking through to 11 August 2018 following the 2017 critically acclaimed sell-out run at the National Theatre. When her ship is wrecked, Viola washes ashore in the unfamiliar land of Illyria and embarks on a journey to find her lost brother. Brimming with music, love and longing, Shakespeare's enchanting play transports audiences to a world of comedic mayhem, mistaken identity and unrequited passion. Co-Artistic Directors of Morphic Graffiti, Luke Fredericks and Stewart Charlesworth, today announce full casting for their new adaptation of William Wycherley's restoration comedy The Country Wife. Fredericks directs theatre veteran Richard Clews whose credits include King Lear, (Chichester Festival Theatre) and extensive work for the RSC and Shakespeare's Globe, Sarah Lam (Chimerica, Almeida Theatre / Harold Pinter Theatre, Lucky Man, No Problem!) and Sam Graham (Spooks, Kingdom, Footballer's Wives) who join the previously announced 'Bright Young Things' - EastEnders' Eddie Eyre, Call the Midwife's Leo Staar, West End stars Siubhan Harrison and Nancy Sullivan along with Daniel Cane, Mabel Clements and Joshua Hill completing the full company. Thrust into the excesses and seductions of late 1920s London: a city exploding with a heavy mix of jazz, gin and scandalous affairs, the production opens at Southwark Playhouse on 4 April, with previews from 28 March, and runs until 21 April. California State University, Fullerton begins the spring 2018 season with Alan Ayckbourn's comedy, Taking Steps. Seasoned professional Mark Ramont directs the production, which runs February 23-March 18, 2018 in the Hallberg Theatre on campus. The comedy centers around the tale of Roland, a hard-drinking, irascible tycoon who is interested in buying an old Victorian house that was once a brothel. His wife, a frustrated dancer, constantly threatening to leave him, joins in this frenetic race up and down the dark mansion's many steps in what The Evening News called 'a farce of riotous delight."    (more...)
