Stumptown Stages closes its 22nd musical season with Tony Award-winning musical THE COLOR PURPLE.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray, THE COLOR PURPLE tells the story of courageous heroine Celie, as she journeys through joy, despair, anguish, and hope in her own personal awakening to discover her unique voice in the world. This musical celebrates life, love, and the strength to stand up for who you are and what you believe in.
THE COLOR PURPLE is directed by Julianne Johnson-Weiss (Portland Community College Music and Theatre Department Head), choreographed by Jeff George with live orchestra music direction by Kent Wilson.
THE COLOR PURPLE features local cast members: Abigail Lawrence, Amber Cobb (Pa), Angela Freeman (Shug Avery), Brock Hatch, Donna Jones, Tiara Primus, Jabrael Armstrong (Mister), Jalena Scott (Sofia), Jerrod Neal (Ol’ Mister), Jireh Wah, Kelli Bee (Nettie), Lennon Samuel-John (Young Nettie), Lydia Fleming (Celie), Nia Scott (Young Celie), Olivia Spohn, and Raphael Likes (Harpo).
