The Global Improvisation Symposium 2026 is a four-day immersive event hosted by Portland State University's School of Music & Theater, bringing together theater artists, performers, and improvisation experts from around the world under the theme 'Activate the Possible.' The symposium features more than 50 sessions including performances by Kickstand Comedy's BIPOC Program, Love Shakespeare, Curious Comedy, and Portland Comedy Theatre, as well as contributions from the PSU Impro Ensemble. Tony Award winner Anthony Veneziale, co-founder of Freestyle Love Supreme with Lin-Manuel Miranda, will deliver an interactive un-keynote presentation and perform a mashup of Freestyle Love Supreme and his musical podcast American Immigrants. Sessions also explore applied improvisation in healthcare, business, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding, with prominent exploration of the influence of improvisation pioneer Keith Johnstone.
