Well Arts Institute to Stage BREAKING RANK at Milagro Theatre This Spring

By:

Five local women veterans share their stories of breaking barriers and overcoming odds.

Well Arts Institute is partnering with Returning Veterans Project and Wise Counsel and Comfort to present BREAKING RANK, written by female service veterans. The play will explore the experiences of women in the U.S. Armed Forces: some have survived tours of duty in combat zones, some cope with military sexual trauma, all of them share what it was for them to be living and working in a male dominated environment.

Well Arts Institute is an innovative arts-in-healing nonprofit that uses theatre, writing, and other forms of creative expression to empower the voices of people with physical illness, mental illness, and social stigma. We provide trained, professional theatre directors and playwrights to facilitate playwriting and oral history theatre workshops for people experiencing a particular illness and stigma. Healing does not always happen with a pill, sometimes the best medicine is to support each other and listen with open hearts and minds.

Returning Veterans Project is a nonprofit organization comprised of community based independent health care practitioners who offer free and confidential services to Post 9/11 war zone veterans, active duty service members and their families. Our volunteers include mental health professionals, acupuncturists, naturopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists, and other complementary health care providers. Visit www.returningveterans.org for more.

Launched in 2000, Wise Counsel & Comfort is an innovative, cooperative practice space for mental health professionals (psychologists, counselors, social workers, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, naturopaths, etc.) who share a commitment to our core values of professional excellence, trustworthiness and generosity. All Wise Counsel & Comfort clinicians all offer sliding fee scale options. Go to www.portland-therapist.com.
