"Unpredictable, absurd and at points darkly humorous." (ArtNet) You are invited to immerse yourself in "The Black Circus of the Republic of Bantu", an interactive solo performance embodied by 2023 Bessie Award-winning performance artist Albert Ibokwe Khoza. Through song, ritual, dance, and silence, Khoza sheds light on the violent history of ethnological expositions, such as human zoos, engaging in collective healing and the reclamation of dignity.

The Black Circus wields theater as a weapon and a salve, turning its gaze outward in service of healing the soul and reclaiming dignity through the power of confrontational art. January 18 - 21st at the Ellyn Bye Studio at The Armory.

“(With Khoza), you soon realize you’re in the presence of… a special, sacred magnetism.” – THE NEW YORK TIMES "Hauntingly magnificent performance" (ArtNet)
