AMERICAN SUEÑO created by Dañel Malán and Rebecca Martínez; directed by Rebecca Martínez, will play from January 15-23, 2010 at the Milagro Theatre.

ABOUT THE PLAY
American Sueño shares the stories of four marginalized individuals in search of their version of the American Dream: Augustín Obrero, a musician, and his sister Monica, struggle between living with their family traditions and searching for new lives of their own; Mimi, a drag performer, yearns to find true love, regardless of her gender identity; and the homeless Cruz, a mere shadow of a woman she once was, searches for a way off the streets. To realize their dreams, they each must decide, "What am I willing to sacrifice in order to make my American Dream a reality?"

ABOUT THE HEALTH FAIR
A free, bilingual health fair, sponsored in part by Kaiser Permanente and presented by the Latino Sexual Health Coalition composed of Teatro Milagro, Multnomah County STD, HIV, HepatitisC Program and Cascade AIDS Project, will provide visitors with Spanish-language health resources. The fair, which immediately follows the 2 p.m. matinee of American Sueño on Saturday, Jan. 23, will also feature free blood pressure checks, referrals, HIV tests, bilingual health screenings and other wellness activities and health-related gifts from representatives of the Latino Sexual Health Coalition, An Sen Clinic, OHSU Latino Medical Student Association and others.

ABOUT TEATRO MILAGRO
For more than 25 years, the Miracle Theatre Group has been dedicated to bringing the vibrancy of Latino theatre to the Northwest community. In 1988, Dañel Malán, co-founder, developed the bilingual company Teatro Milagro as a touring program to reach diverse and underserved communities in the Northwest, particularly those with large Latino populations, and since that time the program has grown into a national touring company. Since its inception, Teatro Milagro has enhanced the livability of Northwest communities by collaborating with human and social service organizations that wish to use the performing arts to address issues of their concern.
