Lakewood Theatre Company to Present HIGH SPIRITS, 10/18-19

By:

The Lost Treasures Collection, a series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a fourth season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year three musicals, featuring a theme of strong women, will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The first offering, High Spirits will have only 3 performances, Friday, October 18 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Performances are on Lakewood's Side Door stage at Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Each show in the series is presented script-in-hand, with minimal staging. No sets, no props (free from the usual trappings of a fully staged production). Food and beverages are available for purchase before and during the show.

In 2013 PAMTA (Portland Area Musical Theatre Awards) presented Lakewood Theatre Company with a special award celebrating the origination of this series and the curatorial care director Ron Daum has brought to directing this series of musical plays.
The 2013-14 Lost Treasures series of plays includes High Spirits (October 18-19, 2013), One Touch of Venus (February 21-22, 2014) and Dear World (April 18-19, 2014). The Series sponsor is Choose Local Media, Kristin Coleman.
The first show in the series, High Spirits, has only 3 performances, Friday, October 18 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. High Spirits features book, lyrics, and music by Hugh Martin and Timothy Gray. The musical is based on the play Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward.
The production is directed by Ron Daum. Musical direction is by Darcy White and Kay Vega is the producer. The title sponsor for High Spirits is Choose Local Media, Kristin Coleman.
The Story: Writer Charles Condomine (Joe Theissen) hosts a séance conducted by medium Madame Arcati (Maggie Chapin) in the hope that he'll learn her tricks so he can use the information in his new novel. His assumption that she is a fake is proven wrong when she falls into a trance and unwittingly conjures the spirit of his late wife Elvira (Evynne Hollens), although he alone can see her. His present wife Ruth (Pam Mahon) believes that Charles is joking until Elvira moves into the Condomine household much to the frustration of Edith (Lisa Knox) the house maid.

Ticket prices are $20 for all seats. The whole series of three musicals is available for a subscription package of $55. Contact the Lakewood Theatre Box Office at (503) 635-3901 or order online at http://www.lakewood-center.org/
Lakewood Theatre Company's Side Door Stage is located in the Community Meeting Room at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego. Food and beverages are available to purchase before and during the show.
