Green Show Performances Return to OSF Next Week

By:

Free outdoor entertainment returns to the Bricks June 2 when Taiwanese Aborigines Culture Tour takes the Courtyard Stage as the first Oregon Shakespeare Festival Green Show performers of the season. The Green Show continues through October 11, six nights a week at 6:45 p.m. The full schedule is available here.

"This year we celebrate OSF's 80th anniversary with shows that reflect the spirit of OREGON with talented artists from our state, partnerships with Oregon arts programs, and some former company members returning for shows," said Claudia Alick, OSF's Associate Producer, Community. "We have acts inspired by SHAKESPEARE and music and dance from the Renaissance. Artists from China, Taiwan, and Iceland, spectacular fire juggling and aerial silks, and unique acts from around the country round out our season with the spirit of FESTIVAL. We're looking forward to seeing you on the Bricks!"

Taiwanese Aborigines Culture Tour replaces Fujian Theater of Peking Opera as the Green Show's opening act on June 2 after the Fujian troupe discovered they would be unable to obtain visas to travel from China. Fujian Theater's second scheduled slot on June 4 will be filled by the Guys and Dolls Band. Taiwanese Aborigines Culture Tour will also perform June 1, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., in the Ashland Plaza.

The performers lined up for opening weekend of the Allen Elizabethan Theatre, June 12-14, each embody an aspect of the theme of "Oregon, Shakespeare, and Festival." The Merriwethers, a band that includes current and former OSF company members, celebrates the spirit of our home state with Americana music inspired by the Lewis and Clark expedition. Chickspeare will rock the Shakespearean spirt with style and humor in a fully improvised performance. The weekend's final act, Curtain Climbers Aerial Dance Company, will bring the spirit of festival as they fly through the air on silks, trapeze, rope and lyra.

"Every year the task of choosing the acts for the season gets more difficult as the number of applicants rises and the talent pool gets better and better," Alick added. "We've said 'yes' as well as 'not this season' to more artists than ever. Luckily, we've already begun confirming acts for 2016."

In addition to Alick, the Green Show is presented thanks to the efforts of Technical Manager Benajah Cobb, Producing Assistants Cassondra Fetty and Donya K. Washington, and Rogue Valley high school students who earn on-the-job experience and a stipend through OSF's Professional Experience and Education Program (PEEP).
