The REP Presents LA RONDE 10/8-24

By:

The REP, Point Park University's professional theatre company, presents La Ronde, written by Arthur Schnitzler and translated by Frank and Jacqueline Marcus, at Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse Oct. 8 - 24 with a preview performance open to the public on Thursday, Oct. 7; it is directed by Robin Walsh.

When La Ronde was first published in 1903, it was immediately banned for its shocking content. Schnitzler's witty ten scenes are a sexual merry-go-round in turn-of-the-century Vienna, a bit of voyeurism on unlikely couplings. Opening in a park with a prostitute and soldier, the erotic romp then introduces the soldier with the housemaid. Which unfolds to the encounter of the housemaid and the young gentleman and after that, the young gentleman's frolic with the married woman. And so it goes until we come full circle to the brothel, home to the very first character we meet. More than a century old, La Ronde is still a timely provocative exploration of our fascination with sex.

The cast consists of Richard Keitel as The Husband, Robyne Parrish as The Actress, Gab Cody as The Prostitute, Christopher Spare as The Count, John Steffenauer as The Poet, Justin Mark DeWolf as The Young Master, Gregory Johnstone as The Soldier, Michelle Weissgerber as The Housemaid, Rita Reis as The Young Woman and Mallory Campbell as The Sweet Young Thing. Scenic design for the production is by Stephanie Mayer-Staley; costume design is by Michael Montgomery; lighting design is by Scott Weston; and sound design is by StEve Shapiro.

La Ronde opens with a preview performance on Thursday, Oct. 7; the show runs from Oct. 8 through Oct. 24 in the Studio Theater. Performances will be held Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range in price from $24 to $27 and can be purchased by calling the Pittsburgh Playhouse box office at 412-621-4445 or online at www.pittsburghplayhouse.com. Patrons can take advantage of "pay what you will" on Saturday, October 9 for the 2 p.m. performance. Dunkin Donuts is sponsoring a talkback on Friday, Oct. 15.
