Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company to Present BIG LOVE

Point Park University's Conservatory Theatre Company presents Charles L. Mee's Big Love. Big Love gives a fresh twist on Aeschylus' The Suppliant Women, one of the oldest plays in the western world.

Directed by Reginald L. Douglas, Big Love runs from February 24 -26 and March 9-12, 2017 in the Rauh Theatre at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, 222 Craft Ave. Performances will be at 8 p.m., Thursdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. When fifty brides flee from Greece to a luxurious Italian villa to avoid marrying their fifty cousins, anything can happen. The story follows three main couples and questions love, gender and equality with humor, heart and music. Mee gives this classic Greek story a wildly entertaining and very relevant modern twist. It even includes modern flourishes like helicopters and Beyoncé! Flee to Italy to escape the winter blues with Thyona, Olympia, and Lydia as they escape from their betrothed.

"Big Love examines the conflict between being who you want to be and who society expects you to be, and asks how does one love themselves and others under such conditions," says Douglas. "Working on Mee's action-packed, poignant script with this talented cast and creative team has been a real joy. The show is both funny and heartwarming, and especially timely. Douglas is the Artistic Producer of City Theatre Company in Pittsburgh, a leading center for the development and production of bold new plays. At City, Reginald line-produces and directs in the theater's six-show season; line-produces and directs in the theater's annual Momentum Festival of New Plays; directs City's annual Young Playwrights Festival; oversees casting operations and artistic initiatives; administers City's Directing Observership program for local emerging directors; and builds community and artistic partnerships both locally and nationally.
