Pittsburgh Public Theater presents RED, November 10 – December 11, 2011

By:

PITTSBURGH (October 19, 2011) Pittsburgh Public Theater presents the Pittsburgh premiere of RED, John Logan's thrilling bio-drama about famed artist Mark Rothko. Directed by Pamela Berlin, Red runs November 10 - December 11, 2011 at the O'Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater's home in the heart of Downtown's Cultural District. For tickets call 412.316.1600 or visit ppt.org. RED is supported by funding from: H.J. Heinz Company Foundation, Richard W. Moriarty, M.D., The Fine Foundation, Women's Initiative at Eckert, and Jeremy & Rebecca Kronman.

Jeff Still and Jack Cutmore-Scott" width="220" height="140" />Starring as Mark Rothko is Jeff Still, who last appeared in Pittsburgh with the national tour of August: Osage County and was part of the play's Broadway company. Playing his young assistant, Ken, is Jack Cutmore-Scott, who recently appeared on Broadway in Arcadia.

RED is set in Rothko's Manhattan studio in 1958 while the artist and his assistant make a series of paintings commissioned for the Four Seasons restaurant in the brand-new Seagram Building on Park Avenue. During the play the audience will see the creation of these monumental paintings onstage. While Rothko works, he talks about the meaning of art. Brilliant but insecure, morose yet often very funny, Rothko schools Ken, but is ultimately challenged by him in this play that illuminates both the history of art and the singular vision of an artistic pioneer.

The design team for Red is Michael Schweikardt (Scenic), Kate Mitchell (Costumes), Rui Rita (Lighting), and Zach Moore (Sound). Fred Noel is the Production Stage Manager and Alicia DeMara is the Assistant Stage Manager.
