City Theatre's CHARLES IVES TAKE ME HOME Opens Tonight

City Theatre continues its 2013-2014 season with Charles Ives Take Me Home, a music-filled journey by Jessica Dickey. Directed by Matt M. Morrow, Charles Ives Take Me Home runs now through December 15, 2013 in City Theatre's Hamburg Studio, with an Opening Night performance tonight, November 15 at 8pm.

A father's love of music and a daughter's passion for basketball are at odds in this new play about competition, commitment, and craft. Jessica Dickey enlists modernist composer Charles Ives to guide a violinist to an understanding of what it means to be a father-and a fan.

"We're thrilled to work with Jessica Dickey again after featuring her Off-Broadway audience favorite The Amish Project at City Theatre in 2011," says Tracy Brigden, City Theatre's Artistic Director. "Her new play Charles Ives Take Me Home is an imaginative script featuring her signature compelling characters, gorgeous language, and abundant warmth and humor."

"In Charles Ives Take Me Home, the sports-loving modernist composer Charles Ives referees the life tournament between a musician father and his basketball-playing daughter, each equally devoted to their passions," says Carlyn Aquiline, City Theatre's Literary Manager and Dramaturg. "The play is about time, following your own beat, dissonance and cacophony, the influence and loss of fathers, and the harmony between music and sports. It's funny, moving, poetic, irreverent, and beautiful."

Jessica Dickey is an actor and playwright. She is most well-known for her one woman show The Amish Project, which started at the New York International Fringe Festival, premiered at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, has since been produced all over the world (including City Theatre in 2011), and is published by Sam French. Charles Ives Take Me Home, nominated for the prestigious Susan Blackburn Prize, began at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre in NYC this past June and was met with praise from audiences and critics alike. Her new play Row After Row (also nominated for a Susan Blackburn Prize), a comedy about Civil War re-enactors, will be at the City Center in NYC with the Women's Project in January 2014. As an actor Jessica was most recently seen in Hit The Wall at Barrow Street Theatre in NYC, Proof at McCarter, the Broadway production of Wit at Manhattan Theatre Club, Miss Lilly Gets Boned with the Ice Factory/Studio 42, and television shows "The Big C," "Law & Order," and the Lifetime movie Amish Grace.

Charles Ives Take Me Home features James FitzGerald, Tressa Glover (Work Song: Three Views of Frank Lloyd Wright at City Theatre, 2004), and Drew McVety. The creative team includes Tony Ferrieri (Scenic), Angela M. Vesco (Costume), Ann G. Wrightson (Lighting), Katie Down (Sound), and Attack Theatre / Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza (Movement).

Preview Schedule: Saturday, November 9 at 5:30pm; Sunday, November 10 at 7pm; Tuesday, November 12 and Wednesday, November 13 at 7pm; and Thursday, November 14 at 8pm. PRESS / OPENING NIGHT: Friday, November 15 at 8pm. Regular Run Schedule: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7pm; Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 5:30 and 9pm; Sundays at 2pm. Weekday matinees will be performed on Wednesday, November 20 and Wednesday, December 4 at 1pm. There will be no performances on Wednesday, November 27 and Thursday, November 28. All shows run at the City Theatre, 1300 Bingham Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203 (South Side).
