MusicaNova Orchestra closes its 2025–2026 season with Calming Waters: Sibelius & Frank, a program centered on lyricism, reflection, and storytelling at Tempe Center for the Arts on May 9. The program spans works from Finland, Ukraine, Peru, and Singapore, including Sibelius's Sixth Symphony, Gabriela Lena Frank's Concertino Cusqueño, and Victoria Polevá's response to the war in Ukraine. Saxophonist and ASU professor Christopher Creviston performs the world premiere of the orchestral version of Carter Pann's My Cross, while MusicaNova Composition Fellow Cheng Jin Koh presents Water Moon, a new work inspired by Buddhist ideas of enlightenment. Music Director Warren Cohen describes the program as one that invites listeners to slow down and engage deeply with sound, with a sense of timelessness connecting all five works.
