Next Wednesday night The Joe Hokins Dixieland Jazz Band will trace the history of jazz and dance through the first half of the 20th century, presented by Theater Works.

Featuring music that inspired dances such as the Charleston, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag and the Balboa. You will be taken on a journey through time an experience how jazz developed due to the influences such as Prohibition, invention of the radio, the Great Depression, Swing Era, WWII and the Dixieland Revival. You'll hear songs such as Way Down Yonder in New Orleans, 12th St Rag, Bill Bailey, Charleston, The Original Dixieland One-Step and much more!

Joe Hopkins has been playing jazz clarinet since the 9th grade . He played with many groups over the years and currently leads three bands of his own: The Joe Hopkins Quartet, the 52nd Street Jazz Band which plays Chicago/New York Style Jazz and the Moldy Fig Jazz Band which plays authentic New Orleans style Dixieland. Joe is currently Director on the board of the American Federation of Jazz Societies, a member of the American Federation of Musicians and the Vice-President/Musical Director of the AZ Classic Jazz Society.
