Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present the national tour of Fancy Nancy The Musical on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the Virginia G. Piper Theater.

Tickets start at $29 ($14 for children 12 and under) and are available through www.ScottsdalePerformingArts.org or 480-499-TKTS (8587).

With millions of copies in print translated into multiple languages, the best-selling Fancy Nancy children's books by author Jane O'Connor and illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser have entertained young readers around the world.

Performed by New York City's award-winning Vital Theatre Company, Fancy Nancy The Musical is a charming adaptation of the picture book Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet. The story centers on Fancy Nancy and her friends Bree, Rhonda, Wanda and Lionel, who are performing in their very first show, Deep Sea Dances. Nancy is positive - that's "fancy" for 100-percent sure - that she and Bree will be picked to be mermaids. When another girl wins the coveted role of the mermaid, however, Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Can Nancy bring fancy flair to her role, even though it isn't the one she wanted?

Fancy Nancy The Musical is directed and choreographed by Sam Viverito with book and lyrics by Susan DiLallo and music, lyrics and orchestrations by Danny Abosch. The production stars Melanie Burg, Tricia Giordano, Caroline Joan Gruber, Lori-Sinclair Minor, Todd Ritch and Ally Young-Price.
