Filmed at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, directed and edited by Aram Avakian and Bert Stern, this film features intimate performances by musical legends including Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Anita O'Day, Chuck Berry, and Dinah Washington. It closes with Mahalia Jackson's rendition of The Lord's Prayer. Presented in a new 4K restoration, the 1959 classic is considered one of the most extraordinary and possibly the first concert film ever made, and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 1999.
