York Little Theatre is proud to present an original production of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, which runs December 11 - 20, 2009 as the opening production in its rabbittransit children's series.

E.T. A. Hoffman's story of a young girl's quest to break the curse placed on her animated Nutcracker and defeat the evil Mouse King is a beloved Christmas tradition and YLT's production includes all the classic story elements including exciting battles and the eccentric and witty Drosselmeier.

YLT's original stage production written by Julie Aiken, is not the ballet interpretation of the story, and features a cast of 26 local actors including Dimitra Skouras as Perlipat, Heather Wallen as Mrs. MouseRinks, Mary McCleary as Copernicus, Brittne Giannone as the Queen and Mom, Dave Hamme as the King and Dad, Phil Rooney as Alex and the Nutcracker, Kirk Wisler as Drosselmeier, Morgan Rutter as Chelsea, and Alec Sylvester as John and Matt.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is directed by York Suburban High School Senior, Jesse Snyder. Jesse has been involved in theatre for more than a decade. His previous directing credits include Sticks and Stones and Hang Man at Suburban High School. Most recently he served York Little Theatre as Assistant Director for Forbidden Broadway.

"Audiences will enjoy this whole new look to The Nutcracker," says Snyder. "It's been challenging to take the new ideas presented within this production and combine them with the traditional Nutcracker elements." Snyder feels audiences will particularly enjoy the fight choreography, provided by Michael Crone, and some exciting special effects. "We have a growing and shrinking castle," explains Snyder.

The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is part of YLT's 2009-10 Columbia Gas Season and is sponsored by Peoples Bank. The production runs December 11 - 13 and 18 - 20. Tickets are $8 and are available at www.ylt.org or 717-854-5715.
