Theatre Horizon Presents Credeaux Canvas, Closes 5/1

Theatre Horizon concludes its 2010/2011 Season with conclusion of The Credeaux Canvas, written by Keith Bunin and directed by Matthew Decker, on May 1, 2011. Exploring a complex labyrinth of love, friendship and intimacy, The Credeaux Canvas is presented at Theatre Horizon as part of the Kimmel Center's Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA).

The Credeaux Canvas opens in a grimy, cramped apartment in the East Village where three twenty-somethings try to make ends meet. The play follows Winston, a struggling art student consumed by work for which he is never rewarded, and his roommate Jamie, who desperately yerns for a sense of family and his father's admiration. A sudden death ignites an ambitious plan to forge a painting by little known artist Jean-Paul Credeaux and deceive an oblivious art collector. Amelia, Jamie's girlfiriend and un-employed singer, becomes entangled as the nude model for Winston's forgery. The three must weigh their friendship against their fortune in this bold and reckless scheme that threatens to unravel the their world.

The Credeaux Canvas was originally produced by Playwrights Horizons in New York City in 2001. "The Credeaux Canvas hits on a timely subject because it reveals the lengths people go to when they're struggling with personal financial crisis. Their dishonest attempt at survival impacts their relationships and ultimately their sense of themselves," says Artistic Director Erin Reilly.

Theatre Horizon continues its tradition of working with up and coming top Philadelphia artists. The cast of The Credeaux Canvas features Chris Bresky (Arden Theatre's History Boys and Peter Pan), Andrew Kane (People Theatre's Panto: 3 Musketeers, Theatre Exile's Lieutenant of Inishmoore, and Lantern Theatre's Henry IV Part 1), Clare O'Malley (Arden Theatre's 3 Penny Opera) and Sue Giddings (Wilma, Theatre Exile and Lantern Theatre). "Theatre Horizon's goal is to unite stellar actors with compelling scripts. The Credeaux Canvas achieves that perfect mix: a fantastic cast of Philadelphia performers in a riveting, juicy play about love and betrayal," says Reilly.

In conjunction with The Credeaux Canvas, Theatre Horizon is teaming up with The Greater Norristown Art League. "Since Theatre Horizon's mission is to nurture community, we are thrilled to partner with the Greater Norristown Art League and display an art show in the theatre lobby throughout April," says Reilly. "Visitors to our theatre can browse or purchase artwork before taking their seats for the performance."

Theatre Horizon's The Credeaux Canvas will begin preview performances April 8th and run through the May 1st at the Centre Theater at 208 DeKalb Street, Norristown. This production contains brief nudity and is recommended for mature audiences only.
