The Skivvies, Shaping Sound & More Coming to Kimmel Center for Valentine's Day

By:

This Valentine's weekend, cozy up at the Kimmel Center for a series of performances that will spice up your romance. With a dash of cabaret, a pinch of funky soul, and a sprinkling of deft dance moves, the Kimmel Center cooks up a Valentine's recipe for love both couples and singletons can enjoy.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts will present three shows over Valentine's Day weekend sure to please lovers of all ages: Break the Floor's dance extravaganza, Shaping Sound (February 11), New York's cheeky "undie-rock" duo, The Skivvies (February 12-14) and the world's #1 live soul act, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings (February 13).

If the way to your woman's heart is through the dance floor, be sure to take her to see Shaping Sound North America's hottest new dance show, at the Merriam Theater on Wednesday, February 11 at 8 p.m. Immensely popular with audiences of all ages, the company members have been showcased on "So You Think You Can Dance," "Dancing With The Stars," "Glee," "American Idol," "The Voice" and "The 2013 Prime Time Emmy Awards." Shaping Sound's movement style features a unique fusion of jazz, modern, and hip-hop choreography. With a dynamic mix of energy, emotion, and athleticism, the ensemble brings tremendous musicality of movement to each performance. Tickets are available from $40-$60.

Laughter mixed with cheeky cabaret can make the perfect date night outing with sexy cabaret stylings of The Skivvies, a "musically thrilling" undie-rock, comedy-pop duo who literally strip down to their underwear to perform. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Rock of Ages,Sweeney Todd) and Nick Cearley (Pageant, All Shook Up) will bring their "stripped" down music to SEI Innovation Studio February 12-14 at 8 p.m. each night. Joining them are Broadway performer Adam Kantor (Rent, Next to Normal, Broadway on Broadway film, Off Broadway's The Last Five Years, Avenue Q, Falling for Eve), Doylestown, Pa. Broadway star Jenny Lee Stern (Rocky, Jersey Boys), and Leslie McDonel (American Idiot, Hairspray). Molina and Cearley became YouTube sensations in 2012, with videos showcasing both their powerful harmonies and their powerful abs. Those clips led to a music video directed by bestselling author Augusten Burroughs, sold-out shows in venues across New York, and rave reviews in The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. Recently featured inPeople magazine's Most Talked About Bodies of 2014 issue, The Skivvies deliver a hilarious evening of genre-hopping pop perfection. Tickets are available for $29 and The Skivvies Pre-Show Package atVolvér is available for $50, which includes (1) concert ticket, (1) cocktail and (2) tartines.

Singles can get in on the action too with a chance to find their own Valentine at The Skivvies Tinder Lounge on Friday, February 13. Anti-Valentines can unite - in their own skivvies if they so choose - when The Skivvies Tinder lounge opens from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the SEI Innovation Studio lobby with mix and mingle opportunities, music and cocktails. Garces bar will have $1 off drink specials and attendees can purchase $20 tickets with promo code TINDER.

Lovers looking to add a little soul to their lives will be seduced by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings in their debut performance at the Merriam Theater on Friday, February 13 at 8 p.m. While other artists have ridden the waves of passing fads, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have bypassed the hype-and-hit superhighway and taken a detour straight to the hearts of their listeners, delivering a visceral rhythm and soul sound to an ever-expanding fan base. There is no other band around today that plays with the rhythm, feeling, or explosive power of the Dap-Kings, and there is no other singer that can match the energy and honest soul of Sharon Jones. This is a WXPN Welcomes Show. Tickets are available from$45-$65.
