Hedgerow Theatre continues its 88th-birthday celebration by showcasing the Great American Songbook as pianist Andy Kahn brings his "Music by Intention: Spread the Words and Music" concert series to Rose Valley for nine musical performances from May 6th-22nd.

Kahn, also a songwriter and record producer who has performed in the U.S., Europe and South America, is making his first appearance at Hedgerow. Describing his concerts, he said, "I sing and play well-known standards by American composers Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern and many others, and also analyze the music and how it was written. The way the songwriters constructed their songs is just fascinating and I enjoy sharing that with the audience. The anecdotes also help explain why these composers had such an impact on American culture during the first half of the 20th century and why their songs are still played today."

"We're thrilled to have Andy join us at Hedgerow," said Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed. "His enthusiasm for the music is just contagious, as is his passion for making sure it remains part of today's culture. Plus, it's a perfect fit for our birthday celebration. The songs he's performing were popular during the early years of the theatre's history."

Each of the shows will be unique, focusing on different composers and music styles, and also will include some on-the-spot jazz improvisations. Performances are scheduled on May 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th and 20th at 7:30 p.m.; and on May 8th, 15th and 22nd at 2 p.m.

The month-long birthday party will be capped with A Musical Celebration on May 21st at 6:30 p.m. The special evening will include a Great American Songbook concert plus refreshments, hors d'oeuvres, a silent and live auction, all for $45.

Tickets for all other shows are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, and $10 for students with valid ID and children under 18. Also available is a special Flex-Six discount package of six mix-and-match tickets to any show for $130 for adults or $110 for seniors.
