Peter Nero to Bring Broadway to the State Theatre, 6/14

Fifty years since the start of his career, Peter Nero is one of the preeminent pianists and conductors in the country. The two-time Grammy Award winner will 'tickle the ivories' for Peter Nero's Broadway at the State Theatre on Saturday, June 14th.

Peter Nero released his first album in 1961 and won a Grammy Award as "Best New Artist." Since then, he won a second Grammy, achieved ten additional nominations and released 67 more albums. Nero founded the Philly Pops and for 35 years directed the entity known as Peter Nero and the Philly Pops. Today, he remains as the artistic director.

Hailed as one of the premier interpreters of Gershwin, Peter Nero starred in the Emmy-Award winning NBC Special "S'Wonderful, S'Marvelous, S'Gershwin." Other television credits include performances with the National Symphony in Washington, D.C., on its July 4th special titled "A Capitol Fourth." He also served as music director and pianist for the PBS special "The Songs of Johnny Mercer: Too Marvelous for Words" with co-stars Johnny Mathis, Melisa Manchester and the Philly Pops.

Peter Nero will be accompanied by Michael Barnett, who has been his principal bassist for 18 years. From Cole Porter's "Night and Day," to Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Memory," to a medley of songs from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Peter Nero's Broadway will showcase his unrivaled talent.
