People's Light & Theatre Company announces a new class called PUPPETRY LAB, which will teach students ages 12 - 18 how to build puppets and act through puppetry. Master puppeteer Martina Plag instructs. Plag will design puppets for the upcoming 2010 production of The Emperor's New Clothes at People's Light, and the class will use the Emperor story as a source of inspiration. PUPPETRY LAB runs October 3 - November 21, 2009 from 1 - 3pm. In addition, People's Light still has availability in fall classes for teens and adults. Some scholarships are available, based on financial need. ADULT CLASSES
Acting Technique
8 weeks, Mondays, 6:30 - 8:30pm
October 5 - November 23, 2009
Juliette Pryor, Instructor
Participants will explore key elements of the acting process, including improvisation, character development, physical and vocal skills. The class will investigate different methods for interpreting a script and bringing to life a character's world using the actor's tools of body, voice and imagination.

Studio Project for Advanced Adult Students
10 weeks, Mondays, 7 - 10pm
October 5 - December 7, 2009

In this class, students will work on one-act plays by Chekhov, incorporating techniques from Uta Hagen. The plan is for the class to culminate in a studio performance (depending on the composition of the class and casting considerations). This class is for students with significant previous acting experience who want to work intensively.

The Alexander Technique
7 weeks, Mondays, 4 - 6pm
October 5 - November 16, 2009

Reduce your tension and pain as you develop awareness and control of your postural and movement habits. The Alexander Technique uses a gentle touch and verbal instruction to improve your performance in daily tasks (speaking, driving, cleaning, lifting, etc.) and in the arts (theatre, dance, music, etc.).

YOUTH CLASSES
Theatre Workshop for Grades 7 -- 8
8 weeks, Saturdays, 10:40am - 12:40pm

Participants will explore the theatre-making process through improvisation, movement, and scene work, developing the tools of the actor: body, voice, and imagination. Beneficial for students at all levels.

Theatre Workshop for Grades 9 - 12
8 weeks, Saturdays, 10:30am - 12:30pm

Participants will explore the theatre-making process through improvisation, movement, vocal work and creative writing activities. Particular emphasis is paid to character and scene development. Beneficial for students at all levels.

Puppetry Lab: Introduction to Puppet Building, Manipulation & Experimentation
8 weeks, Saturdays, 1 - 3pm

Special Guest Artist Martina Plag, Instructor
This class is an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes experience of puppetry. Martina Plag, the puppet designer for The Emperor's New Clothes at People's Light, will introduce students to building puppets and acting through puppetry. The class will use the Emperor story as a source for inspiration.
